i presume with something like a humax foxsat i could only record anything coming in on satellite, so if i wanted to record rte etc, would it be an option to use saorsat for rte reception,? is it in hd and is the picture likely to be as reliable as saorview off aerial,? i live in the center of ireland

I dont think the hummax can do both at the same time , http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=77340209&postcount=2207

If you google "Raydon's Media and file server Bundle" you will find that you can do multisat through diseqc switching with the HDR, you will need to do some readng though.

I think that link refers to a motorised dish setup only, but if contemplating Saorsat and FreeSat/Free to Air Satellite, just be aware there may be issues if currently watching Saorsat and a freeSat channel wants to record at the same time. It may indeed work perfectly but there may be issues for example test:

    1) 7 Day TV guide FreeSat -Does it work -Same with Series link
    2) 7 Day TV guide Saorsat -Does it Work -Same with series link
    3) Recordng from Freesat while watching Saorsat and vice versa
    4) When first powered up on Saorsat during Winter/Summer is time off by an hour. If so is Freesat time messed up?

These are the issues I have heard of with different models. Series link information is not really being sent yet on Saorsat so no-one has tested everything 100%.

If your freesat HD box has a setting for DiSEqc then you should be able to watch Saorsat.

HD Yes. Picure reliability yes fine. No TV3, 3E on it however and may never be.
