Does private van need DOE?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know if privately owned van need DOE every year or two or only commercial vans need it?

    I could be wrong, but I'd guess it's tied to how it's taxed, since if it's taxed privately then it won't be used for business and the DOE test shouldn't apply. Perhaps ring an NCT or DOE test centre?

    Yes.
    Testing requirement are based on vehicle type.
    Van is a goods vehicle, and therefore is liable to DOE every year, no matter if it's owned and used by company, sole trader, privately, or by aliens...

    You can't. Irrespective of its use, it must be DOE'd

    Point i was making is it falls under one or the other as there is no gaps for any vehicle, vans obviously fall under doe.

    Unless their principal use is the carriage of passengers, then they require an NCT.

    Just to muddy the waters :P

    If principal use of van (max 3 seats) vehicle is carrying a passengers, DOE still applies to it.
    If we are talking about vehicle which can accomodate more than 3 people, then it's not a van anymore, but passenger vehicle.

    Yep that's what I mean. It's still a van though, just not a goods vehicle.
