eBay rover links never work for me?

Often eBay sends mails to me with rover links in them, that is to say hyperlinks I can click that should open an eBay page with say an elert on them.

They are usually in the format of:

    http://rover.ebay.com/rover/blahblahblah

blahblahblah being cryptic letters and numbers to bring me to the page ebay is trying to show me.

The problem is whenever I try to open these links from my Gmail using Firefox I get a 'Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at rover.ebay.com.' message.

Pasting the link into IE gives a 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' and an option to diagnose connection problems, all other pages seem to work fine.

Importantly if I just make up web page I do not see the same message, I get a basic message from Ad-Aware saying the page does not exist.

    Any ideas?

If you could give us an actual link it would be great?

I wonder though if it is your DNS server not being able to direct you correctly?

    What OS are you using?

I'm sure you have only honourable intentions, but I'm not sure pasting a link that will log people into my account would be a good idea :)

It's a link to an item I purchased contained in a mail eBay sent me when I was asking the seller about it.

    Mails are coming from member@ebay.ie.

    DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 89.101.160.4, 89.101.160.5

I think they're the default UPC DNS.

Although when I put an erroneous URL into a web browser and Ad-Aware page comes up. I also have Comodo Internet Security installed.

Windows XP at the moment, but I will check it on Xubuntu 11.10 if I still have the same problem, and the same DNS, and if it works I'll try again on windows with my security software disabled.

Also, did you post your message since I first read it this morning? :)

    I posted it at 13.16.

It probably is your Firewall software, but you could try using google dns instead?

    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

Or if your a tin foil hat wearer use opendns.org ones.

Someone else must have posted this morning and removed it.

Will let you know how I get on with different dns, security software disabled, and linux.
