Anyone have an idea about the quality of those usb keys?

    According to the website:
Compatible with USB 2.0 interface. Full plug and play without extra drivers. Come with a hole for easy carrying.

But sure, USB 1.0 is compatible with USB 2 ports. What they cleverly don't say is that it is USB 2.0 itself.

From what I could find the read/write speeds are around 10-20 mbs/5-7 mbs

I wonder how long the exposed contacts will last if you're carrying them around on a keyring in your pocket (which I assume is the intended means of carrying if they're shaped like a key).

    I'd prefer a USB tampon myself: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/04/23/tampon_usb_stick/

I bought one of these a couple of months ago and it fell apart within 2 weeks! Definitely wouldn't purchase again.

2 for €29 delivered is very good. Cheaper than amazon.

That would be my only worry too.

    Another crappy USB Flash drive

    www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B007Y64SMO/ref=redir_mdp_mobile?redirect=true&ref_=nosim&tag=hukdm-21

Storage wise very good, speed + built quality.. that's another story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭apope8

Whoops sorry about the referral link, didnt know ya wern't allowed use them :o

    Noted!

They prob are crap quality, like for the price I'm not expecting them to survive a nuclear bomb. I just taught they were a cool gadget and the price was reasonable enough for the storage! Anyway I have two ordered and shall see soon enough what the quality is like

I was going to get this as it sounds brillant but then there's no cap on it. I checked them out on ebay and then i saw way cooler ones i want instead of it being shaped like a key.

I checked this deal about half an hour ago. 125 people bought it. Its now over 700. In the space of 30 minutes. What am i missing?

For the love of god if you buy this, do not put it on a keyring and keep it in your pocket. it'l get destroyed and the connectors broken in days.

I have a similar one that I got as a freebie last year. Keep it on my keyring, access it once every couple of weeks, still works fine.

It may not be the same manufacturer but the design works, do make sure to take it off your keyring before use though, the connector won't work if there's any weight on it and may rip the port out of your machine if you have a heavy keyring.

the one i had was LaCie

So it was crap because you lost it after a week?

I have a Lacie and I swear by them, great little piece of kit, so long as you don't use it as a key ring. They say the contacts are water and scratch resistant, but tbh the key design is more a metaphor for security as opposed to what most people think... 'cool keyring!'

My work provided us with USB keys which looked identical to this. Mine lasted only 24 hours. Most of my colleagues did better and worked for a week or so. So slow and crap so wouldn't recommend!

I'm taking the piss, but ye it was a lacie and while i had it, it worked great. I never put the protective cover on it either and it worked and worked and worked..

I got it too work, there is a living social and a living social ireland part under e vouchers

go to this address, select your product and enter your voucher

    http://www.bo-vida.co.uk/e-voucher/livingsocial-ireland.html

Just a heads up, I use an Integral branded stainless steel shaped key with full USB\covered contacts. Built like a tank.

    integralkeylogoside.jpg

    integralkeyside.jpg

    integralkeyrear.jpg

Can't recommend it enough. Cheaper than the Lacie models, but pricier than regular USB sticks.

Do I HAVE to create an account on the bo-vida.co.uk site?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭dodohert

Tried calling livingsocial muppets for a refund for my voucher kept on hold for 15mins before I gave up.
Sent email for refund had same problem redeeming voucher .
url contained in voucher pdf doesn't work. ie wont accept the number , but I see someone posted there's another URL to use for Ireland, still tho having read comments here regarding this device I'll think I'll pass get refund anyway. Wont be using them again.

And to last poster yes, you have to create an account with BOVIDA

WTF. I just bought it and all I get is a voucher?? Should have read the small print

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭dodohert

Still no reply on my email for refund !! They have a Dublin number but no one answers it.
My first time buying from Living social also my last, my advice give these muppets a miss anyone thinking of buying these so-called -vouchers'....
The catch is you don't actually buy the item/service but purchase a voucher to be redeemed by the vendor of said item/service then there's the additional shipping cost in 'Fine print' if you need it shipped.

In order to use voucher you will most likely need to create an account with the vendor then enter the code that you purchased from Living Social, where as in my case it didn't work because link provided in voucher receipt wasn't for Irish users WTF !! they could even get that right??

You have seven days to change your mind, of course that is because it's law not out of goodness of this company's good will, that is if you can get in touch with them or if they even bother to reply to emails which they haven't so far. Gonna try call them again when their line opens at 9am on the dot!

I said avoid them, and avoid hassle it brings if you have problems or simply change your mind.

Here is the BO Vida living social link as its wrong on the voucher:
    http://www.bo-vida.co.uk/e-voucher/livingsocial-ireland.html

You need to create an account with them first whcih takes 30/40 seconds only if you are slow at typing like me.

    Ordering is very easy
