Anyone get a picture of this this morning around 9.20am? Was flying extremely low, anyone know why they would be flying this low over Lucan? Possibly flying to baldonnel?

The wind is favouring RWY10 so that's probably why

not sure if this has something to do with it, as it says its closed overnight, but they may have ran over their allotted time :-)

quite simply, the aircraft would be on vectors for runway 10,the easterly runway.

Vectors for 10 will generally be given for base between kilcock and maynooth. Over Lucan if on a base turn I would imagine they were doing a visual approach but would not have been below 1700ft QNH.....I hope:rolleyes:

    Landing on the Easterly runway.

I have been on that approach before and the aircraft literally turned directly over Maynooth before leveling off and heading straight towards the airport, got a lovely view of the town and college.

I live in Castleknock and I have been hearing a lot of airplanes overhead over the past week. I presume it's because they are using the NE/SW runway?

I thought the pretty much use the East-West runway all the time now.

Maybe a large Aer Lingus aircraft that just looked low to you.

The EI108 from JFK went over your head at that time this morning and landed at 0930... It's an Airbus A330 which is much larger than the A320 which you may have flown around Europe?

The NE-SW runway (R23) has been closed since R28/10 (east-west) was constructed in the late 80s. R28/10 is used most of the time.

Are you sure it was an Aer Lingus and not a jet on approach to Weston? That would be the most likely explanation. There are no Aer Lingus flights showing as having overflown Lucan at that time this morning.

It was extremely low - It almost looked as if it was on final approach to Weston or Baldonnel. I was too late to get a pic.

There seems to be constant aircraft noise over my house the past few days and I live in Castkeknock. Usually I don't hear any noise.

What explanation is there for this if it's not the case that a runway other than the main E/W is being used?

The main runway is being used. They are just using it in the easterly direction (10) this time. It's no big mystery. Happens a lot of the time, especially in the nice summer weather when easterly sea breezes form during the day. Normally the prevailing westerly winds would mean the westerly direction (28) is used.

I seen a jet taking off around 8am this morning at Weston. Didn't think they were allowed Jet engines there.

They are. There are several jets based there, including Padraig Harrington's Gulfstream.

There is also an old buccaneer parked there too. I've never seen it in the air but it does seem to be moved around the apron.

That arrived on the back of a lorry , and it's the only way it will ever leave I am afraid , I don't think there are any engines in there .

There are a number of jets in/out of Weston , as Su Campu , PH's Gulfstream is based there.

I noted 3-4 Biz there yesterday as I drove past .

It was a Gulfstream 3 heading for Weston. I was in Fonthill Business Park and it was definately the lowest I have seen an aircraft fly in that area - approx 600ft with its landing gear down. Looked like it must have been coming from Dublin Airport.

Yes it was Harrington's jet, departed Dublin Airport at 09:16. It probably arrived back during the night so couldn't land at Weston.

7 feet and you would probably be missing parts of your house.

it was a cessna? wasnt a big feckin jet

    Get your facts right !

    Cessna dont build the Gulfstream.

go stand 7 feet behind one even with the engine at idle, make an allowance for the effect of 75000 lbs of aircraft passing 7ft away from you at approx 130mph and see what happens to you never mind your roof, windows, walls, head, arms, legs, next doors cat....
