The A-Standard is actually 51.55 now. They changed it awhile back.

Savage news this. She could hit the NR in London!

Is wikipedia correct in saying that she ran 50.73 for the NR?

100% correct...Osaka world championships 2007. She ended up ranked 12th or so from that championships. She just got better with every outing that year. Hopefully she can do something similar in 2012.

Anyone know what relay split she ran in Daegu? It looked quick, made the DQ all that more disappointing.

Also, is there a possibility that she is running too many races? I know she needed to get the A standard but maybe she should run less now. Just thinking of a guy like LJ Van Zyl who often runs really well on the South African circuit and in the early European season but seems burned out come major champs?

Didnt Van Zyl get a bronze in Daegu, and a silver in the 4x4?

Although he was dominating early season so you probably have a point there. Everybody is different. Racing moer often may suit some people more than others.

It is a possibility alright but as you say Joanne couldn't afford to leave things to chance this year, she needed to get her A-time sorted. Also, I'd be confident that Joanne can get herself into prime shape for London, now that she has the qualifying standard she can mark out a more ideal schedule for herself. Really excited about Joanne this year, when she is at her best form everytime you see her you think she is just going to run a P.B...a joy to watch her compete when she is at that level of fitness.

    That's what I was thinking.

The real danger of burn out pre-Olympics was if she had to flog herself around Europe chasing a standard in June/July with no time to prepare for London. This seems a perfect scenario.

As regards peaking for a sprinter, it's usually between the 8 and 12th race of the year.

She's had 6 already so far if I'm not mistaken: Perth, Sydney, Melbourne Track Classic, Heat and final of Australian Champs, and now Japan.

I very much hope you are wrong with that statement!

She has plenty of time to peak again for London. The 400m is about 8 weeks away.

Yes I'd agree with the last few posts, I don't think she has peaked too early, she knew she had to seal her qualifying time and therefore this was expected. If you look at the main contenders in the event for London, Richards Ross, Montsho, Felix etc, all have a few races under their belts at this stage. In fairness also, Joanne has been runaway winners in a majority of her races so far, therefore I'd imagine they were more relaxed than the races that will follow this summer. Speaking of which, she will have a much sterner test this Sunday as she faces Montsho in Japan, who already has 50.94 under her belt this season.
