    Hi,

I'm looking for a new lappy. Went into pc world + curries. I know damn all about laptops only what I've learned on here and google.
So anyway, Iong story short... I opened a picture and video file on this http://www.currys.ie/Product/ASUS-A54CSX159S-156andquot-Laptop/312323/148

    Dual core intel celeron b915
    1.6ghz

Lightening fast, no stalling and load time virtually instant

I did the same for tosh, hp and and few others all with the i5 chip... All loaded slower than the cheap asus

Also the zoom on the asus is super smooth and responsive... On the others it's jaggy

How is this right with a cheap asus and 1.6 chip. Staff there couldn't answer

I'm looking for a laptop to run my websites and editing of 1080p video plus photo editing.

Went into Harvey Norman limerick. Thought they'd only have a few there but it's a big section. Guy there gave me outstanding service ( Karol) and recommended this

Any advice? Or an answer to the asus question

Can't compare unless you get rid of all the ****ware and re-run with the exact same build of Windows.

Possible that the other laptops had a lot of bloatware installed (propitiatory software that comes with the laptop but is usually useless), had worse ram, a slower HDD or any number of other things. For editing however the i5's will still be much faster than the celeron.

I'd be looking at an i3 or an i5 processor if you're going to edit 1080 video

Like I said I know damn all about computers so I don't understand what you mean.

I checked the asus in pcworld and currys against half a dozen other top spec models... Same result.

Are you saying that the high spec ones come with sh*t on them that you don't need which slows them down and the asus doesn't ?
All are running same windows 7

As the others say it could be down to bloatware (software installed on the machine that affects it's performance, uninstalling it can help). It may also be down to someone messing about with the laptop (installing some software that is thrashing the hard drive or changing the power saver settings), it is a display model after all, anyone could have messed about with it. One thing is for sure, you can't compare the opening speed of a picture file with how well it will cope with encoding a 1080P video file. If you plan on editing 1080P video files get something with a better processor than the asus at least an i3, preferably an i5 or i7. The i7 will mean the laptop is hotter, noiser and will produce more heat and give you less battery life so the i5 may be the best mix of usability and performance.

Thanks for that. Will this do the job

It's at my max budget and I defo can't afford to make a mistake on choice.

Will I have to remove this bloatware stuff?

The i3 is decent but at €600 you should be able to get an i5 in your laptop. Maybe more memory too but that won't make as much of a difference. I'd recommend removing the bloatware all right, it will come pre-installed on the laptop when you buy it.

    It's just confused me

I've tested 2 different asus (same model) and they're both lightening... Why don't they have bloatware?

I realize I need at least 2nd gen i3 from my research and comments I've read... I just expected the asus to be slow and i5 lightening

Is the fujitsu here a goer

Thanks for the help guys, this is at my max budget and can't afford to f up picking the wrong one

Different manufacturers will install different software on their machines. From what I've seen Asus refrain from installing much crap on their laptops. Samsung are pretty good about it as well.

Just found same fujitsu on laptopsdirect for less than 500 euro, Harvey is 600.
Karol did say if I found it cheaper to come back to him... Chances of him matching it ?? Gotta say tho he was a massive help.

Think I will go flexirent too as all accidents covered apparently, and they just hand out a new one(skeptical). Doesn't work out too bad when it goes through company and vat and tax come off

They probably don't match internet prices.
