Myself and a few friends are planning to cycle from Galway to Dublin over the course of 2 days later on this month and was wondering if there was anything in particular we should be looking out for in terms of route, paths etc

Currently the plan is to Start in Salthill early on the saturday morning and aim to travel through Balinasloe to a stop over in Tullamore (120km). On the Sunday we plan to return via Edenderry, Clane, Celbridge. Has anyone on here done this route and if so do you have any advice regarding the trip. We are a reasonably fit bunch - we all did the 10k phoenix park in less than 50 mins. All of us apart from one cycle regularly, I do 26km per day on my commute so reckon it shouldn't be too much of a shock to bump that up to 120km

Read this and for a minute I thought you were taking the piss but then realised you probably meant the Great Run, rather than a 10k cycle round the park in 50 mins :)

yeah, sorry probably should have stated that that was a run...

unfortunately we cannot make it this weekend. Have heard it advertised on the radio though, about 500 cyclists expected. Thats pretty impressive

The link address on googlemaps isn't working for me but from personal experience cycling from Edenderry to Celbridge I would go via Derrinturn>Timahoe>Donadea to avoid the narrow and busy Derrinturn to Clane road and the busy Clane to Celbridge road. If you put in the walking option from Tullamore to Celbridge on googlemaps it will pop up.

I take a slightly more northerly route (via Athlone, Maynooth etc) but I've ridden from Galway to Dublin a number of times of the last few years (from Galway originally, college in Dublin so I'm always going back and forth).
It's fairly long but not unmanageable for anyone with reasonable fitness and navigation isn't hard because all you ever have to look for is 'the dublin road,' it's also quite flat (at least my route is, think your's is much the same) and generally the wind's behind you. The main challenge is you might get a bit bored as there's not exactly a whole lot of spectacular scenery between Galway and Dublin.
