Both back bushings (sp?) are wrecked and need replacing. Explains why i was all over the shop on the M50 in the wind last week. Quoted around €300 to fix which i cant afford for another few weeks. Is it dangerous to drive around on them until then?

Its an old civic. I was quoted €60 for one bushing (when only 1 had gone) and around €120 labour, the garage increased the labour to €160 when both had gone as extra work so just under €300. So i should be paying half that or so to get both done?

    180 for one,
    280 for two.

If it was pro-rata, it would be €360, so they have trimmed the labour costs a bit.
Is it the trailing arm bushes and is it on one arm or both rear arms, ie two bushes on one arm, or one bush each on two arms?

Someone on here with Honda experience will prob be able to help, both on costs and safety!

No idea, he called them "the wishbones" if thats any help.Ive no problem forking out for them, i need to get another 2 years out of this car. Just wondering about the safety of it tbh. Its fine to drive, with no metal-metal noise yet, just the alignment was completely off in the bad weather above 80kph last week. Have to drive to Kilkenny and Laois next week so absolutely wont take the chance if its dangerous.

I guess he means the trailing arms. I would think it will be OK if you take it easy. (awaits torrent) In the worst case scenario, all the rubber would go and you'd have metal to metal, but the arm would still stay put. That would be really noisy and awful to drive though.

However, if you start to get uneasy or not happy driving the car, then better not to drive, and leave it in for the work.

If you get the bushings replaced, you should notice better handling, and a quieter rear suspension.

I would have said its as fine as it feels temporarily. Since you said you were all over the road on the M50 i wouldn't recommend driving on it.

Also get a few more quotes!

I drive Civics, had 90's Generation and the 7th Gen, Bushings are cheap as chips €10-€20 and you would usually be paying for the labor involved, with Hondas it is sometimes difficult to get at the little rubber bushes and so many Garages will take the more lazier expensive route and change the whole control arm bushes included. That sounds like whats going on her and why it is as dear as it is, would suggest finding an other garage and get another quote before you decide to spend that much. Also, 6th gen 94-00 civics had wishbones front and back, all cars after this date only had them at the back of the car and the front wheels were on McPherson struts.
