Garmin 800 not powering on

    Hi guys,

I made this request for help before but it was buried in a different thread so some of you may not have seen it.

Basically the problem is that even if the device is fully charged it won't power on.

The "locating satellites" page comes on with 2 yellow bars and then as soon as the rest of the bars go green it switches itself off.

I have 3 more or less brand new devices which we're using for Race Across America and i already had the same problem with another one. I had a look at the garmin forum and that advised removing .fit files. I did that and its fine now. But this other device isnt responding to that. It's not the maps card either. Couldn't get any more joy from the garmin website and reckon the support people mightn't be much better.

I'd really prefer not to have to send it away so i was wondering has anybody had the same problem?

I don't have this garmin, and you may have already tried it, but a full reset is a good step to take.

It'll probably delete all your person data from the device (history, routes, heart rate info...) but might get you back on your feet.

A google revealed this from the garmin forums on resetting the garmin 800.

That thread lists two ways to reset, and also a post from someone who ran a file system check against the filesystems on the device, which seems like quite a good idea too. Last post in that thread.

I may have had that problem too; Garmin 800 kept switching itself off just after starting up. Returned it through LBS and was told 'there's nothing wrong with it'. That seems to suggest it reset itself somehow. It sounds to me like a software problem. Have only tried it on short rides since - but am worried now.
It previously had problem adding distance arbitrarily and they replaced it no quibble and quickly. So its the new replacement that's acting up.

If under warranty it's best trying to get it sorted now rather than risk repeat problems later. When I sent a 705 back (to the UK) a couple of years ago they sent out a new one fairly quickly

Not sure the warranty was any help to me with the problem at start-up; isn't that part of the OP's problem?
