I recently purchased the above tablet based on spending too much time following the bargain alerts thread relating to cheap tablets and secretly been a geek.

Pretty happy with the tablet out of the box, however i can't seem to install some of the more popular apps from play store, Google maps and facebook as an example.

    Its running
    Android 4.0.3
    Baseband version 1.0
    Kernel Version 3.0.8
    Build 20120321.141021.v02

I dont know why i cant install the said apps but i'm guessing its something to do with the version of software running on it.

I've been doing a bit of reading up on slatedroid and i may be able to overcome the issue by flashing/rooting the tablet.

This is where my geekness is been challenged, there seems to be all msnner of ways to do this, all which look a bit daunting. People talk about livesuite and CWM as two ways of rooting a tablet, and there are loads of ROMS/firmwares which can be used.....i think, it's just not sitting easy with me how to do it. Is it a matter of just jumping in? There isn't anything on the tablet at the moment which i care about losing.

Has anyone out there tried to do something similiar? Any pointers or tips would be greatly appreciated.

SlateDroid , lots of Advice there

Livesuite, download rom to your laptop, connect powered off aurora using USB cable, Start Livesuite, You power on your tab, with a combo of buttons, see above, then use livesuite to push new rom to tablet

    CWM

havent used it, but u make your SD bootable, and save rom to SD, (I think)

    Cheers K.

I actually did it myself before i saw reply.

The whole firmware/ROM thingy is quiet alright as it turns out, a bit of trial and error and reading the forums on slatedroid. Got the tablet going, a few issues which i'll do a bit more reading up on but overall its straight forward enough.
