Pug 206 fan speed selector switch

    Hi guys,

    The fan selector is a circular dial with 4 fan speed settings.
    settings 1-3 don't make the fan come on but settings 4 does.
    I'm assuming the switch is gone? Is this an easy/cheap fix.

    It's not the switch it's the heater resistor yep cheap enough fix and is possible to do your self if ur anyway good at DIY

    Thanks for the reply. Are you sure its a resistor? I would have thought its a fan speed switch and not really related to the heater resistor directly?
    The actual fan itself doesn't spin at settings 1-3 but comes on full speed at setting 4.

    its the heat resister.
    i had a similar prob with a VW Golf
    Simple DIY fix

    Yes and it's not the switch that controls the speed of the fan it's the risistor the switch is there for the owner to select the speed but it's the risistor that does the work. How sure am I??? Very sure as I see these problems daily in the garage

    Had a similar problem on a Focus, turned out to be both the switch and the resistor. I think the resistor went, and then caused the fan switch to melt.

    DIY job but the fan switch was completely ruined, and we had to cut the wire and re-solder a few inches from the switch.

    Thanks Kevin. After reading up it seems to fail on alot of 206's. Some say the resistor failure is due to the pollen filter getting clogged and not allowing any airflow to the unit when the fan is switched off and the heat switch turned on. Essentially an overheating of the area behind the centre console.

    Another problem with the same car is the front radiator fan makes a load of noise when it comes on, sounds like bearings are gone. I assume the motor is okay as the fan is turning so is it just the fan I need to replace? Is it a relatively easy Job?

    Yep that's another common fault on the 206 same thing the fan is cheap and can be fitted in ten minutes. So now u have your shopping list a heater risistor and a rad fan as I said both are very common faults on the 206 and just another point there's no reason why the heater risistor fails it just does it gets burnt out and this happens on the majority of cars so don't feel bad it's quite common in all makes and models

    Please don't buy the risistor in the breakers either u will prob save a fiver there cheap as hell new and if u buy a second had risistor u will buy twice and that is for sure
