    Hi all,

I have a 00 Fiesta that sometimes cuts out after starting. It doesn't do it all the time just every once in a while. It will start and then its like all the power falls and it just cuts off. It could happen 2/3 times again (after happening the 1st time) and then its fine after that.

    Any ideas?

if its a zetec engine, the coil pack would be a suspect.

In earlier than 00 fiestas there can be a problem with the choke not switching off and causing the car to cutout.

Yea it's the zetec engine forgot to mention that. Would that be an expensive job?

Could be any number of issues really. Simple as a loose vacum hose

or faulty sensor. Does an engine fault light appear on the dash at all.

Had a similar issue on a Toyota Starlet, engine temp sensor €90 all in for

an indy mechanic to replace it. So might no be too costly after all.

No there is no lights on the dash at all. I mentioned it to my mechanic last year and he said it might be a heating plug and changed one however it didn't solve the problem.

A friend mine soldered a switch into the wire for the choke so he could turn it off manually once the car was running.

Choke in a 00 zetec fiesta? surely not.

Had the same problem myself and it turned out to be the idle air control valve. It's a little valve under the air intake. Took it off, cleaned it, popped it back on and problem solved. 10 minute job with little to no experience and only needed a hex screwdriver and a socket. Just need to de-pressurise the fuel system first by starting the engine with the fuel cut-off switch activated.

Its fuel injected, so won't have a choke. The choke is from the carburettor era and these are pretty much obsolete since the early nineties.

Some of the rally guys would still have a choke as they have converted to twin webers etc.
