Sky multi-room on wimax problem

Hi, I've browsed few of the pages and didn't find anything like this query - apology if I missed it.

Basically I have a sky multi-room system in my house. I got imagine wi-max in about two years ago and since then the main box - which is a plus box always lists itself as connected but never dials back. I've basically had a good old on again off again relationship with sky as a result - as they want to charge me full whack for two boxes. Its just got to the point that its annoying.

I see where one guy got a wireless telephone extender for his UPC installation - could this be the problem in mine? it is just there isn't enough bandwidth on the house wiring back to the wimax box - funnily the regular sky box nearer the wimax box will dial back. Any help appreciated.

An wireless extender might help. Also move the 2nd box, to where the first box is, and get it to manually dial in.

Also a new hardwired cable might help. You can test the connection on the box itself, to confirm if it is working or not.

If you have more than one telephone on the system, then remove it. The more things connected to the phone line the less signal each one gets.

    Hi Zg3409,
Thanks - already tried new cable and using another telephone point in another room. Both points show up as connected in Sky Settings->Signal->Page 2 on the TV, but neither dial back. I can try to move it closer to the wimax system for a single dialback, but I guess longer term I'm screwed.

The Imagine Wimax system isn't a proper Broadband with true QOS managed phone calls. It's a Mobile Wimax Internet on a Fixed Wireless Frequency. It will never be reliable or possibly even work at all for Fax or analogue Modems even if it works for voice. It's a disgrace that Comreg lets them use a Fixed Wireless Broadband band for this gear.

UPC and Digiweb have far superior VOIP phone systems and while Sky callback mostly works on theirs, they won't g'tee it.

now thats the definitive sort of answer I'm looking for. So I guess its bye to sky until I can get a decent broadband service over phone... I can't at the moment.

Is that due to where you live or the quality of the line?

I've had sky multiroom for about 5/6 years now. I unplugged both boxes from the phone line the day they were installed and I've never heard so much as a peep from sky. I'd be surprised if sky went ahead and just let you cancel - they could well back off.

Have been wondering about this, Is the fact that you have to have the second box connected to a phoneline a new SKY condition? Do they crack down on it much?
