Printing a Photobook

Would anyone know how to print a photobook.

I'm talking here of the inside pages of a book, to be bound by a professional bookbinder. I'm not talking about the likes of Blurb etc.

Obviously heavy high standard photographic paper would not be suitable.

    Any ideas?

Double sided paper ... like what?

I know it's not cheap, which would be main reason for going this route.

if steve's suggestion doesn't work out there's a bookmaking couple down here on achill, can't remember their names but i've seen one of their own books and they also bind other people's work as well.

Thanks. Have a good bookbinder, just not sure how to do the inside, like what type of paper etc?

i'd do a mock up of what you want and take it to the bookbinder first maybe, they'd be able to give you a better idea of what margins you'd need and min/max thicknesses of the paper? books can look gammy and not 'sit' right if the paper is too thick but that might be down to the binder, too. i've seen double sided paper in everything from glossy and matte to really nicely textured watercolour to what i'd describe as a 'smooth linen' so they're definitely out there. afraid i can't help you with where though. epson? innova? hahnemule hahnemuhle hannymule?

Might be a stupid question but:

Could you run by me what you would consider a mock up to be exactly?

    Ta.

Talk to your binder, they will be able to advise on what papers work and what don't, and give you the required margins etc.

PUR glue will bind almost anything but isn't often used on shorts runs, cold glue is easier to manage but can warp paper as the moisture is absorbed into the pages.

personally, cause i'm such a stickler when it comes to having an idea of what it should look like versus the final output of the manufacturer.... i can't visualise things by describing them or have them described to me. i have to make/draw them and show them to someone. your mileage may vary!

maybe mock up wasn't the right word though - maybe i should've used 'dummy' instead? just to make sure you and the binder are on the same page [pun intended] regarding the margins, how you want it actually bound, the placement of the images on the pages, whether you want the spine of the pages glued to the backbone of the cover or a round backed binding, what margin they'll need if the pages are to be spliced once it's boud, different thickness of paper behave differently when folded and as said above some can warp, what kind of cover boards you want... i'd have as much research done on what you want the final object to look like before you even go near the binder.

    Thanks, it'll be stitched.

Way way over my head I'm afraid.

New Years resolution was to stick to the photography and forget about stuff peripheral to that.

Which is what I think I'll do. Thanks G.
