Physiotherapy on the medical card.

First of all I hadn't a clue where to post this so sorry if its in the wrong section.

So I fractured and damaged ligaments in my ankle and when I was at the hospital I was told I need to do physiotherapy after two weeks (1 week away) to strengthen my ankle cause its my 3rd time doing it to the same ankle. I didn't go the last two times because they didn't tell me too but now I want to because I've a 10 a side league starting the end of next month over two months so I want to get back as soon as possible.

So... like the title suggests can you get/do physiotherapy with a medical card? cause 50+ quid a session is a bit steep, I'm a student I struggle to pay bills as it is.

The hospital should be able to refer you to either a community physiotherapist or their own outpatients department. Did you actually fracture a bone or tear some ligaments? The best thing is the ring the clinic you were attending and ask them to make the referral. Failing that go to your gp and ask them to refer you.

However you may be faced with a long wait. It might be best to shell out for one session with a private phsyio who can give you a program and advice to work on while you wait for a HSE physio.

Yes I fractured a bone on the right side and ligament damage on the left side, its not torn cause there was no bruising. Thanks for the advice.
