Will a Nintendo DS lite from the US work here?

I am in the market for a second hand Nintendo DS lite and I thought I had better ask here if there are compatibility options playing european games, and with another european DS over wifi or online.

Basically I am wondering if there is any reason not to buy from the US or any other region if I can get a good deal? I know to avoid china, already had to get a refund because the seller would not guarantee he wasn't flogging a counterfeit product.

DS lite will play games from anywhere, no region lock on DS games, which is great!

Fortunately, the DS and DS Lite are not region locked, so all games and systems from different continents are compatible with each other, so you should have no problem.

The 3DS, however, is region locked, and a US system will not play European games and vice versa, so bear that in mind if you decide to buy a 3DS (I'd advise that really).

DSi games can be region locked too, so be careful if you go for a DSi!

    Thanks all.

It's to replace a broken DS Lite for a child, (and some grownups!), so were happy with the DS Lite not least because of the price and that we already have lots of games for it.

Is it correct we can only play two DS Lites against each other using a network with WEP rather than WPA or WPA2? Also, can we connect it to the internet and play against people from across the world, if so what are the most popular games?

Local Play doesn't use WEP or anything (Well, it might, but it won't involve you setting anything up at all, it'll just work).
To play online you'd need your router to have a WEP security key though.
If you got your modem from your ISP in the past 3 or 4 years, it's probably not using WEP, so what I do is use my android smartphone to make a hotspot instead as WEP isn't very secure at all, and that way you can switch it off and on as you need to.
Mario Kart is probably a safe bet.

I had thought you still needed a wireless route for local play, but you're telling me they instead connect to each other directly?

Yeah, I'm all too aware of the vulnerabilities of WEP and WPA, recently configuring a 63 character WPA to fully secure it, but I'm sure I can connect up another access point with limited privileges using WEP just for the DS Lite.

    Thanks!
