Car advice

I am currently driving a 00 Corolla petrol.

I want to upgrade and was thinking that it would be better to go for a diesel car as I will be doing alot of motorway driving at the weekends.

I am currently paying €700 a year on insurance (3rd party).

I am looking to upgrade to a car that:

    - Won't drive my insurance costs sky high
    - Will reduce my fuel costs
    - Allow for easier driving on motorways

I was thinking of a 2008 1.6 Ford Focus Diesel and would appreciate any other suggestions you guys can think off.

    I have a budget of about 7-8k.

I would imagine you'll be paying a hefty premium for an '08 Focus Diesel as everyone want's one. Assuming it's for the lower tax reasons the 1.6 from 2007 is only another €250 I think to tax.

    A 1.4TDI Seat/VW/Skoda could be an option.

    2007 or old 1.6 Focus is €480 to tax, 2008 is €225.
