    Hi everyone. :)

I've decided to get fitter and healthier over the next year and since I'm studying for huge exams at the moment I thought it'd be a great time to try improve the diet.

I was wondering if someone could tell me if this diet plan would be sufficient for a day. I'm not very active at the moment and I am in school usually from about 8-6 so I need to eat enough to stay alert.

    Breakfast-7.00am
Cold water with lemon, one weetabix with 200ml sweetened soya milk, banana.

    Snack-10.55am
    Apple

    Lunch-1.05pm
Wholemeal bread with hummus, lettuce and cucumber.

    Dinner-6.30pm
Meat (usually chicken), potato and half a plate of veg. Dinners often vary tho because I still live at home.

    Thanks for any advice.

Not alot of food in that. Try adding more then just a single piece of fruit to your snack. For example a tin of tuna, easy to eat on the go. Something a couple of hours after dinner also

Yeah that's a fair point, I'll add some more foods to it. Thanks. :)

Mostly all simple carbs with a little fat (~5g) and Protein (~8g)

    Snack-10.55am
    Apple

Simple Carbs again, no healthy fats or protein

    Lunch-1.05pm
Wholemeal bread with hummus, lettuce and cucumber.

All carbs again, though a mixture of Simple (bread) and complex (Hummus, Lettuce, Cucumber)

    Dinner-6.30pm
Meat (usually chicken), potato and half a plate of veg. Dinners often vary tho because I still live at home.

This is the closest to a balanced meal with protein and veg)

    Thanks for any advice.

No expert here, but I have made some notes above regarding the diet you posted.

You give no information regarding your height, weight, age or sex, but I do not think this diet would provide you with the required calories and nutrients. The diet is heavily weighted towards carbs, mostly simple carbs and IMHO is severly lacking in protein and healthy fats.

I think that the listed diet would be really hard to adhere to over a period of time.

I would adivse having a read of the thread at the top of the page titled "Fitness: The Bacsics (Incl Diet & Nutrition". You will see in post 12 from gem (one of the fitness mods, who is very knowledgable) a formula for working out your daily maintenance calories. This is the number of calories you should eat each day/week to maintain your current weight. You shoudl base your daily food intake of this number.

There are also posts outlining healthy foods choices and other ideas. There really is a wealth of useful information in that thread.

TLDR; I reckon your diet will provide insufficient calories and nutrients and is severly lacking in Protein and healthy fats

    Hi everyone. :)

    Breakfast-7.00am
Cold water with lemon, one weetabix with 200ml sweetened soya milk, banana.
Try change to porridge (add berries/nuts/seeds), or even better have eggs

    Snack-10.55am
    Apple
    Too little - Try have a protein shake/smoothies/chicken breast/nuts.

    Lunch-1.05pm
Wholemeal bread with hummus, lettuce and cucumber.

Try cut out the bread very high in carbs - have a salad and add more meat (white)/fish/beans and more veg/salad

    Dinner-6.30pm
Meat (usually chicken), potato and half a plate of veg. Dinners often vary tho because I still live at home.

Chicken is good, also fish, and lean meat. Again try cut out potatoes (or watch portions size), add plenty of veg

    Thanks for any advice.

very little food been eating .. and you are not getting enough protein, fats and a lot of carbs are been consumed IMO.

You should try have 5 small meals a day, breakfast, mid morn snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, dinner.

Plenty of threads on this with regards to a healthy eating and a well balanced diet. Have a look at the stickys
