I remember hearing many moons ago that BBC Radio 1 at its peak used to have to pay something like £90 to play each and every song.

Wondered if anyone would know roughly how much the likes of Today FM and RTE have to pay to play a song.

It's usually a low percentage figure derived from a stations income and negotiated with IRMO; in other words it varies from station to station. Temp stations are allowed to pay a one off fee, usually in and around the €200 mark.

From listening to some local stations i think some artists have shares in the stations because show after show it is the same artists, and the public deserves balance not the same old rubbish.

Costs the same to play a hit as not. It's based on station revenue, and play list has more to do with bai remit.

I don't know if its as much as you might think, because Musicians need radio stations to promote there music as much as radio stations need music.

Its also why music radio is mainly idiotic chit chat these days. Instead of paying to play music, listeners pay the station to txt message on air.
