Quick Electric Vehicle question: Buying 2nd hand

I have gotten curious, perhaps interested, in the whole concept of electric cars, but was wondering if there would be any sense in buying a 2nd hand one?

I seen one in NI with a dealer, but was wondering about the battery, cost of getting a power point added in your garage etc? This would all be covered with a new car, but does it mean there might be no 2nd hand electric car market?

Having the power point added to your gaffe doesn't need to be done more than once, so for the second round of electric cars people buy this won't be an issue.

What car is it, and how much....if you don't mind me asking?

Thats fair enough, but any idea how much it would cost to get it done? Its done free if you buy a new car from what I can see, but obviously if you bought 2nd hand this wouldn't apply.

The car is a 09 Renault Laguna at £8k.

The reason I ask is the Leaf is reduced to €25k at the minute, and you get the free charge point fitted. So it'd probably work out cheaper to buy new.

Don't think the Laguna is an EV though!

If you can get a charge point put in for the difference between 8 and 25 k an you are confident that the ev laguna os going to last then go for it.

Here's a question though.... As it is not greater than 50cc can you drive it on a motorway????

That looks like a diesel hatch to me! You sure its electric?

I'd say there is a typo in the ad.

You won't find a decent 2nd hand electric car yet for 8K Pounds!

No such thing as a 09 Electric Laguna yet!

The charge point is only installed free for new E.V purchases.

It would take about 3 years after the Renault Zoe becomes available for the price to drop that much. It would be worth waiting for if it's not too small as it will be the best available E.V you can buy, (currently) Fast charging from any charge point, currently 1 hour, but they are being upgraded so Zoe can charge in 30 mins from 0 to 80%. Zoe should also have more range than the Leaf.

The Leaf will be cheap enough in 2 years, but it charges in 30 mins only from few DC points available. And reports of Nissan telling customers they can fast charge as often as you like without effecting the battery are starting to emerge.

If you can live with the range at about 65-100 miles depending on speed and terrain the Leaf would make for some seriously cheap motoring, but I would probably hold out for the Zoe as it's charger is much better than the Leaf's, (currently)

One advantage of the Leaf is that you can buy it 2nd hand with the battery and drive it as much as you want, where with Zoe you will have to rent the battery, unless that changes in the mean time!

E.V's are getting more advanced all the time, and in 3 years they will be better again, but cheaper.

If you were considering a new car at around the same price as the Leaf then the Leaf makes so much more sense as it costs many times less than petrol and diesel to fuel. Just think about the range, they are suitable for some and not for others. And you don't have to rent the battery. Buy for the 95% of the driving you do not the 5% you don't, it's so much more expensive to buy petrol and diesel.

That's a turbo diesel Laguna. Renault don't make, and never had made, an electric Laguna.
The one you link to above was a one off, never mass produced.
