    Go to:
    Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs
You can set what program you want to open what file type.

Right click the doc again and click on 'open with'. At the bottom left there is a box with the option 'Always us the selected program' -- Untick this box. -- Find the program you want to use and select - Tick the always use option.

What do I choose or do once I go to default programs?

For example I went to open a file like ''Mixcraft'' ( windows equivelant to garageband ) and I mistakbly opened it with notepad by rightclicking it.

Now every single file is opening with notepad. Even when I open 3connect I cant connect to the internet as it opens with notepad.

I am on a different computer now typing this out. Need some help as I use the other laptop mostly for my work *pulling hair out * :(:pac:

p.s the only files that DONT open with notepad are wav files and videos. everything else is all notepad. grrr lol

any help with this one would be appreciated.

    Did you try my suggestion?

yeah I did that but now everything opens with ''MixCraft'' lol. How do I change it all back to the way it was before? With all files throughout the whole computer opening in their correct format instead of the same format such as mixcraft? because that is all I am getting now. ouch. We are close though.

That sounds weird! Its meant to open files of a prticular type with the program you select.

Anyway, if you want things to go back to the way they were use System Restore. Click START on bottom lect of your screen. Select Programs and look for Accessories. Find System Tools in the list. Click this and you get anothr list. Find System Restore and click. Follow the instructions to restore system to a point prior to when you made the offending change. Hope this works:)

Cant do that as when I go to open up system restore it opens in notepad and I get all this jargon in numbers.

nothing will open except in notepad. It's a nightmare. haha.

Try typing 100101110011100011000111 in Wordpad, and see if you can get a reaction

    (J/K!)

Try and start your machine in Safe Mode (restart and keep pressing F8, and click 'Safe Mode'). If file assocations are OK in there, you machine might have gotten a particularly nasty virus.

Ive done that. In safe mode all icons were showing up as ''notepad'' to be opened with ''notepad''. So what I did was ask the system to restore my machine to a previous point in time ( such as yesterday ) to see if that works?
