There is a far more sinister move behind these new high tech Orwellian water meters.

The system will know exactly if someone is present in a residence from water flow trickling through the "smart" electronic RF gate valve which can be remotely controlled and precisely monitored from within a central database.

Households could now have the most essential commodity for survival in life remotely terminated at the flick of a switch if they disobey.

No, the water meter cant tell if "someone is present in the house", people could be in the house but not using any water or the house could be empty but water still passing through the meter (water tank filling after a morning of showers, flushing toilets and cooking breakfast). There is a dedicated Conspiracy Theories forum for this type of crap.

The real conspiracy behind this is very simple, Make the rich richer and jobs for the boys..

Even for you this is rubbish.

The money will go fund the state while creating job in the installation and maintenance. It'll also mean we know how much water is being wasted through broken pipes etc. Not seeing your 'logic'.

We'll soon see won't we.. It will be a fiasco.

Whenever I see such conspiratorial titles for topics,I automatically know which poster has posted them. I'm still astonished by the fact he seems to believe everything he says.

I suppose getting a bottle of water is out of the question?

"There's no water coming out of the taps? OH NO! THE GOVERNMENT IS TRYING TO KILL ME!"

If you "disobeyed" they'd poison your water supply or just kill you outright.

Even for you, this is a ludicrous theory.

    .
The Lobby is building up in the US, UK and Australia where there meters are also being rolled out simultaniously. they all seem to carry the same message. Some of the points may be a bit over board but certainly not privacy issues.

    - SAY NO to Health Effects from Radiation

    - SAY NO to increased utility costs

    - SAY NO to required appliance change outs

    - SAY NO to invasion of privacy

    - SAY NO to remote shut downs

    - SAY NO to uninsurable consequences

That thread is almost as ridiculous as this one. Water meters will be installed on the buried consumer connection pipe coming off the mains pipe and will be carried out by civil engineering contractors. Anyone paying for those courses is an idiot.

    - SAY NO to Health Effects from Radiation
What, radiation from the signal emmitted by the smart meter? There are already millions of devices in this country using the same technology, you probably carry one around in your pocket all day and sleep with it next to your bed.
    - SAY NO to increased utility costs
Water meters will reduce utility costs by reducing demand, improving demand management and being able to identify leaks faster. Smart meters will reduce the cost by more than standard meters because there is less cost associated with reading them.
    - SAY NO to required appliance change outs
    What does that mean?
    - SAY NO to invasion of privacy
It doesnt invade your privacy, as I already pointed out.
    - SAY NO to remote shut downs
    Or just pay your bill.
    - SAY NO to uninsurable consequences
    Such as?
Yeah, thats just some guy trying to sell signs and bumper stickers to fools (or else some guy who as come up with a great way of being able to identify the houses and cars of fools).

    MOD NOTE:

OK, I think we've had enough wild speculation for one day.
