mondeo mk3 key

My mondeo only came with one key. I want to sort out a second in case of the worst. Reading about it seems you can code them yourself if you have two keys but thats not my case.

Could I buy a second hand key off ebay or the likes and get a new blade fitted and cut? Can the imobilizer chip be programed to different cars or are they only programable once??

Anyone any idea of what i should expect to pay to get it cut and coded
I was thinking of something like this?

Downey's charge about €40 for coding I think Sean. Maybe €15-20 to cut the new key.

So 2nd hand keys , ie; previously used , can be re-programmed ?

yes they can,important to make sure you have the correct chip in
the key,ie red,blue or blue w1 etc;)

thanks for the info, any way of knowing which colour goes with a particular car ? problem is that the original key is missing, does it go by the year or model of the car?

Earlier car have red chip -up to year 2000,from 2000 to 2006/7 have blue,our 2007 fiesta has blue W1 chip.not sure about the new ford range.:-)
