Wow, for anyone looking for a cheap alternative festival to the likes of Pukkelpop, Tomorrowland or Werchter,

Have a look at this fantastic line up for 120 euro

That looks really good. I'd completely forgotten about Dour in my search for a mid year festival to fill the Glastonbury hole. Anyone got a breakdown of how to get there, what to expect, recommendations on camping etc? I know friends who went before but had an awful time after they got caught in some 8hr queue in the sun to get in so anything on how to avoid that happening would be what I'm looking for.

Getting there is relatively easy - plane to Brussels/Charleroi, then train to Saint-Ghislain. From there, there's a shuttle bus to the festival. (they used to charge for it but I think it's free now). It's a decent festival, though it's a very young crowd in my experience, similar to Oxegen in terms of age (though not mentality). They have an annoying system of tokens for beer/food.

There are two things that I didn't really like about it
    - It's very commercialised. Almost everything is sponsored and there's very little choice in the way of food/drink etc..
    - July in south Belgium can be....uncomfortable. The two years I was there, the temps got up to the late 20s/early 30s. Sleeping in the tent past 7am was impossible (consider they have some form of music going till 5am most mornings). Sleep was at a premium. By the last day, the site had turned into a dust bowl I couldn't wait to get home.

I'm not sure if I would go back - it does continually have one of the best lineups of a festival in Europe and it's very cheap but it's not a great festival experience, imo.
