Registration was originally expected to begin in April 2012 and all households will be expected to register their waste treatment plants and septic tanks before April 2013.
The Dept of Environmt admitted inApril that there was a delay in setting up the registration system – and they could not give a date when registration could begin.

    Hi
Would it not make sense to use the household charge list (I know that is only around the 50% mark) has they have asked on it if your house has a septic tank or not. If they try and make a new list then they are going to have to compare it to something or check every house in the country to make sure everyone that has a septic tank has registered, and we are not that great at registering for things like this. Also the extra cost to us for information they already have at a push of a few buttons.

No, the goverment has 'forgotten' about it in the run up to a certain referendum. I'm sure they'll 'remember' it shortly after the vote.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

    hi,
on-site wastewater treatment (PETS) is a bit of an unknown at the moment. In the industry we are awaiting the EPA guidelines and its likely to be the case that charge and assement criteria will come in tandem with the publication of the guidelines for PETS and surface water drainage.
The house hold charge or any other manor of government survey to ascertain if your property has a Septic system is purely for correlative data to compare to the county planning reg. details.
Some properties may have replaced systems and or been altered - and known what I do of planning offices - records are not complete.
As and when we have technical information and detail I'll post in the forum.
    Mike F ;)

No date confirmed yet. Could be a couple of months off.
I would imagine it will be well publicised.
The septic-tank scheme is currently being tested and registration will begin in July, with an online and postal method.
    Discount
Once registration starts, homeowners with septic tanks will have three months to register and avail of the special discounted rate of €5.
After that, the special offer ends and the remaining septic-tank owners will be liable for a €50 fee.

THE Government is moving ahead with its plans for water charges, septic tank charges and a property tax, Environment Minister Phil Hogan confirmed last week.
Minister Hogan said he will receive an expert report on the new property tax very soon and the €5 septic tank charge will be implemented once technical details are finalised.

Loophole in septic tank charge ???
Galway West Deputy Brian Walsh told the Galway Independent today that in many cases the need to carry out remediation work on faulty tanks could be avoided completely by undertaking to de-sludge the unit once every two years.

Call to register septic tanks at €5 rate - The Irish Times - Wednesday, June 27, 2012
MINISTER FOR the Environment Phil Hogan has said septic tanks can be registered for €5 for the next three months but inspections will not commence until next year.

Mr Hogan told the Oireachtas environment committee there was no doubt remediation work on some systems would be necessary, but he could not make any commitments in relation to potential grant assistance. “As inspections will not commence until next year and as it is not possible to predict the future, it is not possible for me to make any commitments in relation to potential grant assistance for owners whose systems might be found to require remediation.”

Mr Hogan stressed that any grant scheme he might introduce would have to take “budgetary constraints” into consideration, as well as the financial circumstances of the households concerned.

He said an information campaign would inform householders on registering their systems before the February 1st, 2013, deadline.

The maximum registration fee payable under the Water Services Amendment Act 2012 will be €50, but Mr Hogan previously said a reduced amount of €5 would apply until September 28th of this year.

“I would encourage all owners of properties connected to domestic waste water treatment systems to take advantage of the reduced fee,” he said.
