Right lads hypotethical situation here... IF an examiner in the recent irish orals displayed pictures face up rather than face down, and IF this was reported to the dept wat would be the consequences for students involved??

I heard this rumour from a LC student I dont teach, he didnt sit his oral in the school involved but knows people who did.... Its only a rumor rite now but Id be interested to hear from Irish German and French teachers who are in a better position to comment...

I am an oral examiner in Irish. I find your post very difficult to take seriously.

As do I...however, I do know an examiner who let them put it back and choose again...they were reported. It was in my friend's school. Soon stopped that behaviour, extern was in within an hour of call being made. Today is Thursday, surely this should have been made known earlier in the week.

    Who reported the examiner?

Hypothetically they could be prosecuted under the education act for giving a student an unfair advantage and tampering in a state exam.

However I would question why a teacher would help a student who is completely unknown to them.

No idea, story was all over the town. I'd imagine a student in another school or a parent from another school. The extern told the principal they had had a complaint. I've no idea why they even felt the need to tell her though, department business. Maybe just so she knew it was being dealt with.

Very strange! I'd have thought that parents wouldn't know the "set up" and formatting of the exams.

God ours do. We're in a very mixed school, I sent an email to all LC parents with details on the new exam so they'd be up to speed.

Really? Wow! That must have been time consuming, to email all parents! Did you feel there was a need to do that? It would never ever cross my mind!!

I don't know about a need but a lot asked at the PTM and I didn't want them bothering me during the year. I gave out my school email to the students, got LC students to get them to email me, the ones that did were made into a group on gmail. I'd say it took max ten minutes!

Im sorry gaeilgebeo but I put it as a hypotethical question and I stated twice that it was just a rumour because I didnt want to make any kind of accusation here!! sure it could just be one kid making a comment about how easy the oral was for them and it was just blown out of proportion.

I really wanted to know if anything like this had happened before and how strict the dept were on it... obviously theyre very strict. But if like gaeilgegrinds1 suggested its parents or students from other schools reporting the issue, how is it investigated if the students who took the oral dont come forward. What I mean is, in gaeilgegrinds1 case, how did they know the student was allowed to pick again unless the student or examiner says something on the tape?? And I cant imagine them been that stupid.... It jst seems like an area of the leaving cert where it would be difficult to bring appeals and accusations against the examer...

If something was said it'd be on the tape. Even some sounds indicating dissatisfaction or encouraging them to go again could be picked up on, my tape is VERY clear.

The only thing I would say to anyone considering making a complaint against an examiner ; be very sure that it is not a rumour and that all the facts are correct. A false allegation like the above can have a serious affect on ones career.

The outcome of such a complaint, if it were true, would vary from individual case to case.

Well this student wouldnt make a complaint and I gave him the spiel about how its very unlikely to have happened... but I just taut the students would have to resit and the examiner wouldnt be called to examine again... didnt realise their could be legal implications.. That makes everything even more unlikely!!!

I imagine that a false accusation like I heard would be very hard to disprove as there would be no sounds on the tape... with the exception of some students shock at seeing them turned the right way up!! Its scary to think that this could damage someones career as its already all over one local school....

Of course there are legal implications, it's a very serious allegation.
