    Hi all,

Ive been using contact lenses for a while now, but only 2-3 times a week and for 5-6 hours each time for sport only.

So its not like im wearing them 24-7.

I rang my 'Big Name' opticians to order more and they wont give me them unless i get a check up, which will cost me more money.

They are assuming that I have been wearing them 10 hours a day, every day and if that was the case I would agree with a check up. But if im only using them sporadically, surely there's no need for a check up?

    Thoughts?

Legally you need an up to date prescription to get contact lenses. A contact lens prescription is valid for a year regardless of how often you wear your lenses!

Even though it is an inconvenience to you personally and financially, these check-ups are very important because they will have a look into your eyes and make sure there isn't any growth of blood vessels which would be synonymous with a deficiency of oxygen in your eyes caused by some contacts, they screen you for Glaucoma by measuring your eye pressure and will also test your field of vision, which will give an indication on whether there is anything worrying going on i do shúile!

If you wear contacts, this is one of the requirements. If you don't like it, don't wear contact lenses!

Order a larger supply of lenses next time and then you won't have to get a check up as often.

That is a truly unhelpful and potentially dangerous piece of advice.

The annual eye test for users of contacts, is there to help you, not inconvenience you.

If you really care about your sight, you would not have any qualms about going for a check-up.

Listen, if you don't want to be inconvenienced by a little check-up, then don't use contacts. It's as simple as that.

    Hello,
I'm a regular user of contact lenses. In the last year I switched from beweekly lenses to daily ones. It has been a while since my last check and I would like to have one now but I moved to Dublin not long time ago and I wouldn't know where to go. Can you please suggest a good optician with good ratio price/service in Dublin?
What do they usually do in this checks at the optitian? Do they just measure your eyesight or do they check also other things? I entered in one optician to ask and they told me that I have to undertake the eyesight measurement (around 25 euros) + a consultation about contact lenses (I'm not sure what do they do during this check) and that it would be 45 euros (I don't remember the exact price but I think it was 45).

Many thanks in advance for all the information you can give me.
