    Hi All

Looking to see what anyone thinks of buying the new DS5?

I'm seriously considering it but would appreciate any advice either for or against.
Bit sick of BMWs, Audis etc.

Nice choice. Mightn't be great resale wise, oddball French stuff doesn't usually fare well.

I'd like one as a company car

If you're buying it to keep for a long, long time or you're getting it as a company car, then do it.

If you plan on changing in a few years time again, be prepared to lose a lot of money.

Lots of respect if you take the plunge.

Scrap that, buy a nearly new one. Let someone else take the hit on depreciation.

They are a lovely looking car. Citroen are coming up with some seriously good cars recently

Give it six months and there will be a few I would reckon.

I disagree, there may be a few ex-demo's but for the most part there will be very few knocking around.

These won't be a big enough seller to have a decent selection. It'll be like the C6 IMO.

I drove one and was impressed and it has a great spec, have had any amount of 3 series and a couple of 5 series, will still have the 520d F10 as this will be a replacement for an ML commercial.

Was thinking of the A5 sportback in S-line trim but I keep going back to the DS5, theirs just something about it.

The sales fella mentioned the C6, said they didn't take one as they could have 6 C3s for the price of the C6.

Get it. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Pity they didnt put proper suspension on it though.

The car buying public dont know a good thing when they see it.

    Such a shame.

Personnally I couldnt give a **** about depreciation. Especially if I can afford the car in the first place. I wont drive something I dont really want because the next person wont pay enough to buy the car.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,102 ✭✭✭✭Drummerboy08

If I was spending someone else's money I'd consider one no problem, but if it was my own money I don't think I would.

Well it's a company car and I own the company

Theirs one in Westmeath for €39k what do you think they would take
for it on a straight deal?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,102 ✭✭✭✭Drummerboy08

Are you buying it straight, or looking at leasing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 766 ✭✭✭displaced dub

Don't know yet, a mate of mine owns a merc garage and says he can get €25k for the ML which will be paid back into the company, so will probably get new finance for the DS5.

    What do you think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,102 ✭✭✭✭Drummerboy08

Assuming the ML is fairly fresh based on that price, if it isn't then take his arm off! The market for that kinda thing is dead so it's hard to move them on.

You could lease which would keep that 25k free to use for other things in the company, or you could finance the balance on Hire Purchase.

It really depends on if you want to tie up that much company cash in a depreciating asset.

I would gladly spend someone elses money on it.

They are a nice bus to be fair, shame the value will drop like a stone.

Someone please buy one so I can get one in a few years.

I love the look of them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

I'd be inclined to go with an automatic transmission for a car in that class. The interior is beautiful, and a lovely place to pass the miles.

I have read reports that the sound deadening and ride quality are not what they should be but there's no harm seeing if you are happy with it. I would love one.

Without "proper" citroen suspension its a tarted up pugeot
It looks great (all the ds range do, i spend most of my time in paris and they are everywhere! Btw some of the colour combos people pick are shocking)

Without the hydractive system, its just a pretty car, not different, not special.

There go my future car plans, bugger:(

The other choices will be sprung too though so it still gets my vote.

The C5 has springs till you get to Exclusive spec (iirc) now too.

    Thats true,
I had a c5 for 4 years and i loved it, it looked and handled like a barge, but it was like driving a couch, no sprung system can compare! I drove the new exclusive but i didnt like the interior.

I now drive an alfa 159 which looks lovely and handles great but I have to slow down for bumps that just weren't there before.

Sorry op for going off topic.

No worries, was watching the match.

Wil be asking the garage for the DS5 for at least a night if not a weekend just to live with it.

You'll end up buying it if you do that you know ;)

I had a DS3 for a weekend. If it was cheaper I would have taken it but my budget changed while I had it and I couldn't get it :(

I want the 200bhp 4wd diesel hybrid version.

    Second hand, of course.

I test drove one and considered it. Considerable discount offered as well but Citroen are trying to keep a lid on that apparantly;).

It just left me confused to be honest. From some angles it's gorgeous but I'm not sure I like the fussy chrome detailing. The interior is fantastic and it is practical but...I just couldn't see myself in it - it's borderline MPV.

I didn't notice the ride comfort especially bad but it was a smooth road. Nearly every review mentions how bad it is over potholes however and that raises doubts for me. A big Citroen is a brave choice but without the magic carpet ride, the major USP is gone and it's just a C5 in a haute couture frock.

At the end of the day I'd still consider one after a decent test drive but not new. Used it would be worth a punt. That's the perennial problem with big Citroens though, isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,237 ✭✭✭darragh o meara

They're a fine car alright. Lack of the hydro suspension is a bit of a shock. That's been Citroens trade mark for years. A big C6 would do it for me though :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,712 ✭✭✭✭R.O.R

How tall are you, and do you ever have anyone in the back?

Had a DS5 for a few days and had a customer over to test drive it. He's about 6ft 3" and has teenage sons, so got the drivers seat in to his position and I could just about squeeze in behind him. Knees right up to the seat back and feet under the driver's seat - would be hell for more than 30 minutes. A4 & 3 Series have more rear leg room if that's important.

Stunning looking car and a fantastic interior, but value will drop like a stone and it's pretty overpriced for the category it's in. Discount isn't spectacular for a Citroen (but more than Audi or BMW will give).

Will probably find some buyers who want to stand out in the car park full of A4 or 318's, but we won't see many around unless Citroen give a massive discount.

S60 D3 R-Design? Dynamically better than the DS5, bigger discount available and not a bad looking machine. D3 5 Cylinder 163ps engine is a cracker, or a D5 twin turbo 215ps model would probably come in roughly the same as the DS5 in Keenan Bauer.

Theres a lot of people on here caught up on the lack of a hydractive suspension on many of Citroens cars, and seem to discount those that run on steel springs. Which is a pity.

How many people here have driven the current model C5 for example on conventional suspension? Because I'm driving one at the moment, and the ride comfort on this car is still second to none.

If the DS5 has the same level of comfort on steel springs, then there's nothing wrong with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,929 ✭✭✭✭ShadowHearth

I might be an idiot, but I love the new range on Citroen. It just looks amazing. I would take ds3 ds4 or ds5 in a second.
It's a shame people have such snobby opinion about French cars. So not many will be sold. I can't afford new one, but deck i would buy one second hand in a few years.

I have and Imo there is no comparison.
Btw im not saying the normal one is bad, the hydractive is better:D
I was also put off by the small interior. my 01 c5 was huge on the inside, the new model is alot smaller (or feels smaller anyway not sure which:o)
