Just got a student placement in Rathdrum for the summer starting in June, need a place to stay for three months. Any suggestions on where to stay? I have no car so will be relying on public transport.

If your placement is in Rathdrum, and you have no means of transport, it might be wise to look for accommodation in, or close to the town.
Rural public transport is not really something you can depend on.

I agree with slowburner public transport is not the best to Rathdrum. here are the bus timetable http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1326189473-133.pdf and train timetable http://www.irishrail.ie/media/11_DublinRosslareEuroport111.pdf It depends where you are doing your work placement and how much you are willing to spend. I don't know of any places to stay in particular http://www.visitwicklow.ie/accommodation/index.htm might be of help or else contact your work placement for advice. anyway good luck in your placement.

Thanks for the replies, I'm still having no luck, all accommodation seems to be geared towards tourists and is very expensive for someone on minimum wage. I was hoping somebody would have a room to rent or digs. I'll have to keep looking.

Could you put a sign up in one of the local shops looking to see if someone is renting a room out?

It might also be worthwhile putting a notice up on the staff notice board in Rathdrum Hospital(its an old people's home). There could be staff who could do with renting out a room for 3 months.I think you would have to ask the matron . A friend of mine whose lease ended a few months before she was due to emigrate put a notice up in a shop near her work and a local B+b offered her room ,breakfast and an evening meal at a decent rate. There is also the hostel. It mainly takes people who are sent there by the council but it might be worth checking out.
