    Good read :D:D:D

    Especially his update on cyclists......

"Other people point out that cyclists are real assholes and douchebags, too. But cyclists are a real diverse bunch. You have fixed gear folks who I think are really cool. You have the mountain bikers who I think are friendly except if you are walking on a trail they are riding. Road cyclists tend to be more prickish. But I have never found any that were just overt snobs. [He hasn't met anyone from Orwell, then :D:D]

Granted, many cyclists have some really expensive rides, but I find them strapped to roof racks on 20-year-old cars. The bike is worth more than the car."

Wow. There's a lotta hate there! Except for fixed gear cyclists who are 'really cool' apparently ;)

I *think* he's confusing the Ironman brand with the sport of Triathlon meself...

"A group of people are going to get rich off of a trademark that no one else can use...Triathlon isn't really a sport but the narcissistic indulgence of rich assholes...These rich assholes do this sport instead of opting for one of the single sports because it seems so awesome that they can suck at three disciplines instead of one...People just hear Harvard and assume you're smart instead of being the brat of well-connected rich parents...Triathlon is a way that pricks can tell the world that they are awesome and rich and better than you...You probably also wash and wax the rich triathlete's BMW after the race... I could go after tennis, but the only people playing tennis today are rich middle-aged housewives...But triathlon has evolved as a money sport for rich narcissistic pricks."

Would you like some mayo with those chips, sir?

    Loved this bit .....

"Of course, triathletes are silly fcukers anyway. You can see by the way they dress for the event:

I realize that all sports require wearing some silly stuff. But this takes the cake. This outfit would look cool on a chick. It doesn't look so good on a dude."

^^ That photo has done more for the sport of triathlon-hating than all the doping scandals have done for pro cycling.

Lance does Triathlon, the prosecution rests.

Is that somebody pretending to be a mummy or something at the side of the road?

Without any kind of agreement to the article (to be fair, I've never encountered a triathlete), I find it bizarre that from what I can tell, triathletes "have" to buy a dedicated Tri/TT bike costing at least €2500, when your standard competitive road cyclist seems to do just fine with a €2000 road bike that will see five times the mileage.

Maybe that's just the perception, not the reality.

It is partially perception and partially reality, but you unnecessarily dress it up in an anti-triathlete manner.

Go to a local TT and you will see the roadies with the same bikes as triathletes (ie a mixture of TT bikes, road bikes with clip on aerobars, or just road bikes).

Many triathletes have 2 bikes (TT and road), just like many roadies who take TT'ing seriously. But I know dozens and dozens of triathletes and most have bikes considerably less than €2500.

Arguably, on the other hand, the bike itself has a bigger impact on a TT than a typical (Irish) road race so might justify extra expenditure.

Maybe you unnecessarily interpret it in an anti-tri manner. ;)

I have no strong feelings about triathletes in any direction.

I dunno: I'm a triathlete (at least I've done a few triathlons) and the idea that I'd have to be rich to have done so is fairly laughable. The vast (and I mean 95%-plus) of the bikes I see are no better than "standard" road bikes. (Certainly, that's all I've got.) TT bikes are pretty rare except among the 5% who are doing this semi-professionally. And - with the possible exception of darts - any sport performed at a semi-pro/pro level is going to mean investing in the best equipment. How is triathlon different?

Aren't there 2 Triathlon Governing bodies? I only skimmed the article but he seems to have forgotten about the ITU. WTC owns Ironman.

Ok. Admit on here who only has 2 bikes. How ridiculous.

I regularly train with triathletes. I started out with the same snobbish approach as many cyclists. The guys and gals I train with put a huge amount of effort into their sport. The training regime is insane.
Yep some have bling bikes, but many don't. Regardless of the bike the training still has to be done.

There was a road race I did last year. On the A4 race was over I ate and showered. I saw three guys come in in the front group of an 80km A3 race, 30 minutes later I passed them as I was driving home. They were running - and I mean running as opposed to jogging.
As I said, insanity. But I have a lot of respect for tri folk. I couldn't do it.
