Quick insurance question

I've looked around and at the moment I'm swaying towards an Astra OPC.

Now I have insurance through Liberty on a Celica VVTL 190 for coming up on the last 4 years, rang today to get a quote for the OPC and got shot down.

Under 30 and 2.0 litre were the reason.

My question is, anyone here have an OPC and under 30, what Insurance company did ya go with, or am I better off getting out the Golden Pages and ringing around?

    Info : 26, M, Full License 5years, NCB 6 years.

Why is the 2.0 litre a reason? I rang up and got a quote of 920 on a 325ci this morning.

I'd imagine the reason is simply that it's a performance car and they want nothing to do with it.

Tbh OP, there's only one way around this, get out the phonebook and ring brokers/insurance companies and get the best quote. I spend over 2 days doing this recently. I found AON to be quite good, but tbh you're better off finding whats best for you.

Give Aviva a go, they are one of the few that would give me a quote on a Golf GTI at 24.

That would be the best idea anyway tbh.

Their words not mine, basically said as I was under 30 they wouldnt be giving me a quote on the OPC as it was a 2.0 litre.

Its more to do with the performance car element though I pressume.

Out with the phonebook anyway, first stop probably Aviva and see what they can offer and take it from there.

    Thanks.

Chill Insurance is a good place, they are only short of quoting a 18yr old driving a ferrari.

Just bare in mind that they can load you with charges for changes during your policy, €40 for Changing car, address , phone number etc

Try Chill I mean they will charge you for any changes you make while you hold a policy with them.

The OPC is a +200bhp hot hatchback which is alot different to a BMW 325ci. Insurance companies go by bhp more than engine size in these cases and also the profile of both the type of car and person that drives it. They probably meant 2.0 litre as a layman's term, I'd bet they would probably quote on the 325ci faster than the OPC.
