Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone knows of any good routes to run and cycle around the castletroy area?

    Thanks

    Hi

Try mapmyrun and search for routes near Castletroy.

There's 380 within a 3 mile radius. also there not just runs, you can adjust the filter and there are cycles too.

I see lots of people running behind the University, near the river.

There's lots of options around or near the University, your imagination is the only limit :D

The river bank is lovely to run along (ok for cycling too I'd say but could get messy with dogs, prams etc.) and keep an eye out for Paula Radcliffe and other elite athletes who train there when they're over with Ger Hartmann.

Around the college is nice too - no traffic and flat. The new pitches have a trail all the way around too which is perfect for running. A full lap is approx. 1k long so it's a handy way of adding on extra distance without going to far.

Riverbank is best yeah, its about 3 mls from the track to Athlunkard Bridge, very nice run. Pitches are good but could be waterlogged now i'd imagine :D

    Here is a best of Castletroy/UL run;

What distances are you interested in for each?

Would be looking at at least 10km for running and longer routes then for cycling about 10-30 km cycle trails possible?

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks

A bit out the road there are nice spots where gang I was living with would go mountain biking, drop them a mail and they will give you a good list of routes.

A recent 10km fun run was held in Castletroy and the route map is shown on the March 8th entry here
www.facebook.com/MonaleenCSG
.

There was also a Plassey 10k held in UL at the weekend with the route map here
www.runmyroute.com/UserRoutes/Details/29728
There is a cycle lane out the old N7 as far as Nenagh from the Annacothy roundabout that'd cover the distance you want.
