Peugeot Timing Belt intervals...?

Sorry to be a pain and to avoid me further bothering you with similar questions but does anyone know of a 'definitive' link to a site where I can find timing belt change intervals?

Someone I know is looking for a car and can't decide which model they want so keeps asking me for different models.

I've Googled it but found conflicting information....

Specifically (for the moment) I'm wondering about the TB interval for a 2008 Peugeot 308 1.6 HDI, I Googled it and got different information so I phoned two Peugeot main dealers and one told me 72,000 miles and another told me 100,000....

    Thanks

The correct interval for that engine is 240,000km or 10 years. The dealers seem to be quoting lower intervals, which I suspect is an attempt to drum up a bit of business.

240,000km seems like a massive interval but we sell a lot of cars and look after a lot of cars with that engine fitted and we have yet to see one break. We actually have a 05 Focus in this morning for a belt change after 241,000km.

You won't get Peugeot quoting those intervals. Be careful!

I know Peugeot dealers don't quote that interval. That's why I specifically said so in my post that you quoted ;)

I am just relating my experience with these engines. Since you have almost certainly worked on more of them than I have then maybe you would do the same. It would be good to hear some facts from an actual Peugeot mechanic rather than a service advisor or whatever they call themselves.

Have you seen one break a belt? If so what mileage was on it? What interval do you reckon is appropriate?

In fact I haven't. Not one have I seen broke since that engine came out in 04. To be honest we do them at around 180-200k.

Interesting. To be honest I am happy enough to continue running them to 240k. The belt that came off the Focus I did this morning was in pretty good nick, the water pump was starting to leak alright but that is normal enough.

180k-200 k miles or kms ? My sister is wondering when to do hers ?

    Thanks.

KM. Ford have revised the interval on those engines down to 200,000km since this thread was last active btw.

    Thanks George,

She only has 68,000 miles so she will be happy to hear she has some way to go yet.

    Cheers.

Usually end up changing these around 200km as customers generally are not happy to leave them longer. I have never seen one break and any that I have changed have seemed to bee in good condition. The water pump would be the first part to fail I would say.
