Normally I finish work at 16.30 and I am usually starving before workout and i have to eat something. I always don't make the right choices here as I'm on a training program and want to loose weight. Anyone suggest something that will give me energy with low calories. Thanks.

A chicken salad around 60-90 minutes before is good and then add in a pre workout shake (whey protein)

Also caffeine Pre workout is good.

I couldn't prepare chicken salad as I would be travelling straight to gym from work.

I just want something to quench my hunger. Sick of eating a bar of chocolate to supply me with energy and thus putting on extra calories into my system. You reckon nuts are a good alternative?

I keep a small tube of tuna 56g and 8 almonds and have it at 4.00pm with training at 5pm, wont win any awards for taste...but gets the job done!

I seem to remember peanuts were not recommended (but Id have to look it up again to see why), but all other nuts were.

Almonds/walnuts/brazils are a great hunger quencher. Bananas work for me too.

Why not try making your own protein bars
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055992322

These are yummy and an alternative to having a protein shake. If you make them I recommend coating them in desicated coconut as they can be quite sticky.

What is the fat , carbs, ect in these ? And are they as easy as they look to make ?

LIDL have 85g sized tins of flavoured tuna. Sweet thai chilli being particularly delicious imo. I use em as a snack after college if I'm working out in the evening.

I'm no health expert here so apologies if this sounds stupid but is 233 calories from these protein bars a lot to consume when your on a mission of loosing weight? I would burn on average 1000 calories on a typical gym workout.

I would generally avoid fat in pre workout meal as it slows down nutrient transport etc. Around 90-120 minutes before is ok with things such as peanut butter and rice cakes.

A protein shake with Kara coconut milk is another decent one. You can add some berries in to it as well and its quick and easy

Peanuts are not really nuts, but legumes (beans) ;)
But you probably mean "contamination with aflatoxin"?

50g of nuts would be a pretty poor choice. 300 cals ories out the windoe pretty quickly

Well yes and no. Adding it on on top of you diet will but a big dent in your calories deficit. So don't so that. Instead you need to adjust your whole day to account for it. So instead of have four 300 calories meals over the day, you need to have four 250 meals and a 200 calorie pre gym snack (I just picked random number btw).

TBH its mostly in your head. You are hungry because dinner and lunch are so far apart, not because you have used you all the energy from lunch and are low on energy. Something small to kill the craving will be fine. A banana or a protein shake will come in about 120 calories and should be fine.

The thing with home made protein bars is that you can make them as big or as small as you like and can adjust the ingredients based on your own requirements. So reducing the porridge oats content will reduce the carb content etc. I usually up to protein content and the nuts.
I use these bars all the time in preference to consuming protein in the form of a shake. The bars are solid food so reduce hunger cravings that I might have post workout and stops me snacking when I get home or get to work. Protein shakes don't fill me up so I'm much more tempted to snack on crap.
