I'm looking for advice on how to dress when looking for a Job.

I mean jobs such as bar work, working in a shop, jobs like that that don`t require a qualification..

I'm male... is trousers shoes and a shirt overkill? (everything but the tie and jacket)

This will be when looking for a Job whilst in California for the summer on a J1.. but advice applicable to Ireland also welcome.. thanks..

That would be fine. We get lots of people coming into the small pharmacy where I work (sign of the times unfortunately) and that's what they would be wearing.

A confident approach will do more for you than a shirt and tie for the types of jobs you listed. Always ask for the manager too. CV's handed to staff usually get left behind a till and dumped.

    Good luck.
