Have you tried grating veg and 'hiding' it in things like chilli or bolognaise? The sauce usually masks the taste and after a while you'll get used to it. Vegetables bore me, I do like carrots and a few others but I'm getting more variety by putting veg in things.

I was the same as you for years OP. Now I eat peas, I put two whole peppers and and an onion in when makeing myself a few fajitas, homeade curry or stirfry. I eat chunky veg soup. Its just a matter of baby steps..............Dont fret and over analys the fact your dont like veg and pic one this week and try it.

Apparently it takes ten attempts of eating something you may not like before it starts to become more palatable for you. How about this eve add a small amount of peas(whatever fills an egg cup) and one sprig of brocolli to your plate with your fish. Tomorow maybe try a bit more or maybe some peppers.

I am nowhere near a veg eater. I am resigned to the fact I will never eat a salad as I dont like them but I do like peppers and onions when spiced up in a curry or whatever. There are still loads of food i dont but should eat but I am getting there and so can you.

    Fill your boots!!

Well the reason you're overweight is probably because you're such a fussy eater. Get over it and start trying new things, or enjoy being fat for the rest of your life.

You're not overweight because you don't eat vegetables, you're overweight because you're consuming more calories than you're burning on a daily basis. Only way to lose the weight is to eat less. Vegetables just happen to be high in fibre and generally lower in calories, so you can eat a larger mass of food in each meal if you include vege, which'll help you feel full, even on a diet.

Advice would be to read the nutrition stickies at the top of the forum, work out your daily calorie requirements and the amount of protein you should consume on a daily basis and go from there. It may seem daunting at first, but the more you educate yourself on this, the easier it becomes and I promise you with patience you can lose the extra weight.

Children don't eat veg because they don't like them. Adults eat veg because they are full of vital nutrition required for a healthy diet.

Start eating veg and stop being so childish about your diet.

Ah lads ye're being a little harsh on the OP!

It's really hard to change your palate. Today for lunch I had a bowl of rice, mashed up sardines and coconut oil, I bet it wouldn't be to many people's taste (people have openly pointed at my lunch while saying euggh! before :)). It is healthy but that doesn't mean other people HAVE to 'suck it up' and eat it if they don't want to.

Baby steps OP, unfortunately Irish cuisine usually involves horrendously limp, overcooked vegetables and that's where most people get their aversion to them. I like the idea of hiding them in other things like the other poster mentioned.

Mashed potato is great at hiding finely chopped broccoli, or you can make mashed carrots and parnsips with butter which is my favourite veg. Or stuff a load of mushrooms, carrots and courgettes into a shepherd's pie.

    Best of luck!

All the crap you eat has stunned your taste buds, eat healthy and your taste buds will recover and you will begin to enjoy veg.

Ill second that, I can see where the OP's coming from. I had an aversion to veg for years based on my experience growing up of eating boiled to within an inch of its life cabbage , carrots , spuds etc.. Eating them was always a chore. As an adult Ive learned to cook them properly and derive pleasure from eating them, almost to the point where Im practically a vegetarian. Keep with it!

Try eating the veg raw . I eat broccoli and cauliflower raw and I like them but when cooked I find them unpalatable to say the least .

Something else that may help is making big pots of vegetable soup and then blitz them so that they are smooth and creamy. I eat veg because I know it's good for me but it's not that I'm a huge fan or anything. However, I would lick a bowl of homemade broccoli and cheddar soup clean!

Without eating veg you would need to restrict the amount of food much more, what about porridge/eggs for breakfast, fruit, good fats, plenty of protein and avoid large carb meals unless you need it because of exercise, for sustained weightloss that is something that you will need to get into, up what exercise you're doing now and make a plan that is realistic, you may lose a lot of lbs in the first week or two but after that it slows down so dont start all guns blazing, build it up and get used to new exercises.

In the meantime Its great that you want to change, I think the food issues will have to be worked through before the weight issues are fully resolved imo, so what do you eat now I had to improve those and take something that had a vegetable taste and then eat the real thing but without having to deal with the texture, like onion flavour, then something with onion in it in very small amounts and eat it with some other food, like have your main meal and have a very small amount of veg on the side and try one new thing even once a week and then build it up, if you cannot eat yet try touching and smelling this will take time, I know you technically could lose weight without eating veg but when I got rid of most of the foods that were making me fat it was very difficult to find replacements that had the nutrition I needed for all the extra exercise.

Try making smoothies with fruit and veg, you won't know there is veg in there. You need to get away from addictions from sugary stuff, reduce the amount of meat you eat, use beans and pulses, keep off alcohol and fizzy drinks, eat as little bread as possible.
