    Report it to the Gardai.

Report it to carzone is about all you can do.

Remember, clocking isn't illegal, the Gardai can only start investigating if he sold the car to you without telling you

Report the add too - bottom right of add, "report this add" button.

Clocking isn't illegal in this country, unless the buyer is not informed when purchasing according to recent posts in the OT thread where one poster's car was blatantly clocked.

Not sure what the Gardai can do tbh...

Reported the add on Carzone...he's going to get a call from a local Guard in Dulbin anway....

Did you ask about the mileage or are you just going on the ad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Mail and ask for a pic of the odometer, he might have got it wrong in the advert.

There's way too much of this going on. We might not be able to do anything about it legally but there's no harm in posting examples of cars you know / have proof that are clocked. There's also no harm in informing the gardai as in my experience if a dealer is in to clocking it's generally not the only dodgy thing he's involved in. Also I see no harm in time wasting text and emails directed to the offender either! ;)

I'd say if someone set up something like clockedcars.ie they would be kept busy.

He hardly got the mileage wrong, then got it wrong again saying only 42,000 kms and service due in 10,000 km.

That's as blatant as be dammed.

The advert is gone. Good work boards.ie clocking taskforce :D

I'd say they'd be sued for defamation within a month.

Why isnt it illegal? Surely it is fraud?

What is the situation in the UK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭rodneytrotter15

The add is still there...he's not answering calls now...

Only the act of selling without informing the buyer is fraud.

Reported it myself earlier to Carzone, the response I got was:

    Dear Col200sx,

    Many thanks for your mail.

We have tried contacting the seller to confirm details on the vehicle. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful and we no other contact information for the seller. Many thanks for bringing this to our attention. We will keep close scrutiny on the advert.

    Kind regards,
    Carzone Digital Support Team.

Well, the guy hasn't done anything illegal yet so the police can't do jack unfortunately.

Anyways, here is a link to where you need to go.

If Carzone are even half as useless as Donedeal at removing adverts for cars that are clocked, it'll be up there for another while yet...

    Hi guys
in new here so go easy on me,heres my question.i went to look at a car today and it was advertised as having 58k miles on the clock. The reading on the dash board had much less however the guy in the garage had all the cars service history and documents and receipts and a statement from a very well known reputable car dealer in dublin stating the cars clockes had been changed last year.He also done a full car history report for me and it looked fine.does this seem a bit dodgy or is it normal to have clocks changed in this way and the car then starts at zero mileage after this work has been done?

Seems like an honest seller to me.

he is obliged to tell you if the clocks have been changed and what the REAL mileage is ....................which is what they have done

I hope so because i really like the car, just a bit confused as to why the clocks when replaced wasnt just put back to the correct mileage rather than back to zero.btw the car is a renault scenic which is all digital if this info helps.

It's a well documented fault with the Scenic clocks. Renault fit a new set for €100.

Altering the mileage on the new set would be clocking:)

My mate bought a 2002 Laguna which had new clocks and was given a slip with the original mileage stated clearly on it and the above explanation as to why the mileage was reading a lot lower

I see the carzone add for the Focus with the clocked mileage is either back up or was not taken down. Not sure they give a toss re reported ads.
