Internal Wall Insulation Question about Dividing Walls

    Hi

    We're getting our semi detached house internally insulted using dry lining.

    I was always under the impression that you only needed to insulate front back and gable walls however the person doing it has ordered sheets for the wall dividing our house from our neighbours.

    The wall dividing is solid concrete is it necessary or advisable to insulate this wall the money isn't really a factor but losing space may be anyone know how thick the boards generally are.

    Cheers in advance

    The boards are differing sizes...37.5mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm.

    Seems a bit strange to dry line a dividing wall from a neighbours house.

    Maybe ask the guy why he's doing that wall also?

    If both houses are heated to the same temperature, there should be no heat loss through the. Dividing wall. I don't think there's any need for insulating the dividing wall, unless sound from next door is a problem, or it's vacant/ unheated.

    It's not a professional doing it its a friend and when I asked he said you have to do that wall it was only afterwards I was thinking its prob not necessary

    if hes applying the board using the grout 'dab' system.. you might find that noise from next door is actually amplified by this installation.

    It is actually good practice to dry line back for 1m from all walls perpendicular to the external walls. Where one transfers from good insulation to poor ( dry lined wall / party wall ) there is is a risk of localized condensation on the party wall possibly leading to mould growth.

    When I converted my garage I also drylined the party wall using 37mm ( 25 + 12mm) insulated plasterboard.

    i would advise you to dry line it , because if the person in the next house were to move out and the house sit empty you will lost a lot of heat.

    heat = money
