Would any of the members here who are doing Athy this year send me there name, race they are doing and projected time !

I need to get them all by May 25th. I have something in the pipeline i can't just confirm yet but need all details to get it into action !

Also if you could list your user name race and time here it would be great as well !

Is there a prize for estimating your time correctly. I might have to round my original estimation down from a 3 hour sprint if so. :D

Ha i was wondering when i might get called out.

I havet really thought much about it. From what i gather the course is the same as 2010? If so ill go with:

    Race: Sprint
    Projected Time: 01:01:50
    Name: Edward Brennan

Im going to be fairly flat and on the back of no training after Mallorca so who knows!

Anybody care to join me at the back??

Still not sure if I'll enter this yet. Have to see how funds are holding up, in order to get a wetsuit.

It'll take me about two weeks to get around the sprint course if I go for it :)

How come a lot of the top boardies are doing the Sprint and not the Olympic? Is it easier to pick up more National Series points in the Sprint?

It is easier for most to gain a few more points, however the Olympic usually offers more ultimate points for the winner/top 3.
So top 3 or so are best off doing Olympic.
Olympic is usually more competitive regarding higher placed athletes - most will race the Olympic.
Outside of top 5 ish it prob offers more points for similar position in Sprint...
So a 10th place in sprint may offer more points than 10th in Olympic, and would generally be easier to get that place in the Sprint as most of top 10 would enter the Olympic.

However, Sprint looks quite competitive this year too so a few seem to have similar thoughts and it may balance out evenly!

Then there's BTH who is gonna man up and do both!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,184 ✭✭✭El Director

For me its not about the NS as that doesn't have any bearing on races i choose but hate the run course there and the thoughts of having to do it twice sends shudders! Its handy to get to for me and I'd like to compare to last years result also.

That probably explains why Mike Yelverton did the sprint last year & not the Olympic. He probably didn't want to drop points if he finished second to Bjorn Ludick.

Mike got 125.2 points for winning the Sprint comfortably (1.5mins).

Bjorn stole the show and won the Olympic comfortably for 128.6! points. - in fairness he won by 3.5 mins I think.
Dave Richardson was 2nd in Olympic and got 125.1 points.

    So:
    Olympic:
    1st - 128.6 points
    2nd - 125.1 points (3.5mins behind)
    3rd - 123.67 points

    Sprint:
    1st - 125.2 points
    2nd - 122.27 points (1.5 mins behind)
    3rd - 121.2 points

Also comes down to personal preference on course and advantage regarding disciplines/distances etc.

    Ah, the dead have arisen!!

Hows all with you? Getting much training in with the newborn?

Never done Athy, so basing this on last year, something like,

    10:00/1:00/32:30/1:20/19:00. giving 1:03:50 :D

    Haven't a clue though.

    splits

    Bike : 150min (@32kph)
    Run : 110min (@5:30min/km)

    Sprint 1hr 09mins

    Doing both

There's no extra points for coming first (or points lost for coming second), it just depends on the ratio of your time to the 30th percentile time.
