Cert Of Conformity: Changing to UK plates

Just wondering could anybody explain to me how/where I would get this document?

I am changing my Irish car (Ford Fiesta 2003) to UK plates and need this piece of paperwork as part of the process, at least I think that I do, the DVLA themselves weren't entirely sure.

The whole process is a bit of a nightmare to be honest between insurance and the whole lot.
Cannot get insured without UK plates, and cannot get UK plates without UK insurance so it's a bit of a catch 22. Adrianflux are the only company that seems to do insurance on the chassis number but it's very expensive to say the least but don't seem to have any other options.

Any help on the above would be great.

    Hey.

I had to do the same a couple of years ago.

You get the Certificate of Conformity from Ford Ireland. Just check on their website for a customer service telephone number. I have a Toyota and they sent me over the CoC for no charge.

re the insurance issue, I got my car insured throughout Admiral. This initially covered me for driving the car over and getting the MOT done. I could only use the car again once I had it registered.

    Thanks for that.

I was hoping to get with Admiral, they seem to be the most reasonable for fully comp (still very expensive compared to Ireland) but once I was on the phone to them they said they cannot provide insurance without a UK reg, which obviously I don't have.

It seems they have stopped this practice.
Aviva were the same, they said they used to do it but not any more so the options seem to be limited.

Imported my 2002 Mazda to UK last year. Certificate of conformity cost about e50 from Mazda Ireland. Insured on VIN with Churchill, not many other options as far as I remember. Not the cheapest but reasonable enough, had to insure with them for twelve months, not just for time it takes to register. You can drive on Irish plates and insurance for up to 6 Months in a 12 month period as long as you're not permanent UK resident, which gave me a bit of time to figure it all out. (check with your Irish insurance company, I was with fbd)

Registration ultimately v easy; need to bring CoC, UK insurance cert, Irish reg documentand UK registration form to motor tax office and pay road tax on the spot. Sounds like an epic pain in the arse but not that bad once you get stuck in. No need for further inspection of car other than mot.

Dvla website useful source of info; fill in the form and request an import documentation pack.

    Thanks!

I rang Ford Ireland in Cork yesterday and they are posting on the CoC free of charge to my UK address so that's one thing less to worry about.

Also got the insurance sorted with Admiral, they will insure me on my chassis number and give me 30 days to sort it all out.
It was expensive compared to Irish insurance but they were nearly the cheapest out here to go with, just lucky they also insure on the chassis number as I found nearly all UK companies won't.

    Slowly getting there.
MOT next, heard it's not as stringent as the NCT so hopefully it'll be grand.

    Hello all,

going through the same process myself, just got the MOT sorted! It is so handy that the garage can fix the little issues right there and then, and not charge for a retest!

As for the insurance, adrian flux was £950 for the year, acorn £250 for 30 days, and admiral online was £563, although that was just for standard insurance. IF they do cover on the chassis number, great! otherwise i could always pay the £250 to get registered, and then the £563... do you remember what rates you were paying?
