Thoughts on this car or alternative options

So the missus is expecting and she has just sold her Astra Coupe and she needs to buy something else...I'm looking at the below but will consider anything reasonable...any thoughts on this ? I know, I know, it's French but are they really that bad ? Any mechanics have any experiecen of them in relability terms ?

Estate ( have a large dog to think about )

Seems very expensive for what it is. The Renault Clio Tourer seems better value imo:

Strange choice of engines, she either needs a diesel or doesn't. Will she be doing much milage?

How about this, it's a facelift with average milage http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=201202206567043 and your well within budget.

I wouldn't take a french car as a present, they really are scrap, few of the garages round here now refuse to service them. Pure muck avoid.

I have to say that is a very rough generalisation. There are some very reliable french cars for the original posters budget. The Clio being one of them. Some models have been mediocre at best but not all.

Also, I would wager that the clio would be as reliable as the underpowered Audi estate that has been shown above. If you are going to spend a premium for one at least get something that isn't a "paddy special".

She does very little mileage, definitely less than 6k or 7k a year. Her preference is for an Audi but is restricted by budget. I actually came across the Audi when looking, seems a bit big for a 1.5 or 1.6 and the mileage is a little high I think. Haven't seen one of the Clio's before and am going to do some checking....

Have you had the Audi for long....:D

If you could stretch to a 1.8 you could have this high spec Volvo for only 7k
