Rush-hour bus commute times, South Dub to IFSC

    Hi all,

might be moving job and house soon so trying to work out where or how it is possible to commute from in South Dublin to the IFSC while keeping the commute within 45min.

I know all about the Luas journey times but that limits me to a narrow enough strip of the south side. I think the only other option is the bus.

So I'm wondering how long it takes to get from say, Terenure crossroads to the IFSC - 15a/b?, at peak times. Or even just Terenure to somewhere city centre would be useful.

What about Rathfarnham village to IFSC or at least to somewhere central, at peak times??

I'll ignoring the frequency of services for the moment. Thats a whole other question...

    Thanks!

Well don't forget the DART too.

Also you could always think about cycling, most places in the south side would easily be within 45 minutes of better of the IFSC.

The 16 takes about 30-35 minutes from Rathfarnham to Westmoreland Street in the morning peak.

Yes, thanks, you are right. ok, Im wondering about places not covered by Luas or Dart. And the bike, yes, absolutely, but I don't want it to be my ONLY way of getting to work. Any not sure if new office will have a shower. Id stink!

Ah, cool, thought it might be longer. That means 45-50min if I walked from Westmorland street into IFSC.

That's travelling at 0730 or so from Rathfarnham. You would be on Westmoreland Street for 0800. The IFSC is 10 minutes walk maximum from there.

The 15b will take you directly to Custom House Quay, but will be slightly slower - might take 10 minutes more to travel to CHQ overall.

Once you're in or around Westmoreland Street, it makes more sense to just walk directly to the IFSC. On very bad mornings, the bus could take another 20 minutes to get there, when you'd walk it in ten.

Depending on your start times, you could also look at taking a Dublin bike. There's a stand on Talbot street and another at CHQ. You'll get across to Rathmines or Portobello in about 15 minutes and then you can jump on a bus there. Availability is your only issue there - if you start after 8am and finish after 5pm, you can find that the stands are too empty/full.

Realistically, will have a crèche run before I head off to work, so I'm looking at bus/walk/biking between 8:15->9am and 5:45->6:30pm.

I suppose that will make Dublin Bikes availability unreliable, and the bus times given here already a bit optimistic... I'm thinking again Rathfarnham might be just too far out.

Buses after 0800 from Rathfarnham will take about 40 minutes to the city centre. Take off 5 minutes if you're travelling from Terenure.

Coming home you're looking at similar times at that stage of the evening rush hour.
