If you have a .22 you can get 'shot' rounds for it, they work great but the other method mentioned above is free just don't forget the gloves haha. what ever way you prefair really

Only girls wear gloves. Be a man and just reach in and grab the ****er. His claws aren't strong enough to hurt you.

Hold the magpie in one hand and then give him one sharp smack over the head with a stick and the jobs done. I do not wear a glove or anything and I still have all my fingers.;)

Considering that magpies are fond of dining on rotting meat etc, i always wear the gloves! A belt in the head of a priest or a stick is the handiest way I find!

+1 on the gloves, nothing to do with claw's or nip's, how many times you seen a dead rat on the road with magpies munching on what's left of it. . .

Na lad I'm just cautious, it's not the claws I'm worried about they've a strong enough nip on them sometimes enough to draw a bit of blood have you ever seen what they eat? Road kill etc? Yeah no thanks I'll stick to the gloves haha.

Oops only read the other comments now as regards what they eat and what not.

Ha great one, I'd be sick for a week if that happened me.

I nearly always let one or two get away from me every year when taking them out of the traps. Nothing worse. Ever happen anyone else?

I lost a decoy bird one day feeding him. Good tip to anybody who uses larson traps always cut the wings of your decoy bird before putting him in the trap. I reckon you will never catch a magpie again if he gets away from you.

Last summer we had a great call bird ..we caught 52 with just 1 call bird in the end. But heres the catch , the trap was made from chicken wire so over time he wore it out and eventualy escaped, wencame home to find the bird missing and a hole in oje of the trap compwrtmrnst where he escaped ,but the following morning we had a look at the trap and to our astaunshment he was back in the trap sitting in the decoy cell witht the trwp triggered. Knew it was him with the tathered tale feathers. Thatsbhas to be the funniest thing we came across when trapping magpies. But to answer the OPs question we use a good stick and a good hit to the back of the head , you can also use a hammer if you want to be more efficient but usaly one good hit kills them instantly.
