Recently, I put a hover to the base of my laptop while hovering living room. I thought I would suck out the dust stuck in the air vents.

The fan does not seem to operate now  It doesnt rev up or make any noise. Because of this my laptop over heats and shuts of pretty fast :(

Can this be fixed ? Or do I have to buy a new laptop ?
    Its a Toshiba Satellie L300D.

    Major thanks in advance.

Hoovers and computers is a No-No!

Open the case and use canned air. Fan might be blocked with fluff.

It's a bit too late for that I think! The OP has learned their lesson. I'll add to the above to hold the fan blades in place as well while cleaning with canned air - that's what destroyed the fan's motor.

OP: The fan/heatsink can be replaced. The laptop shutting down automatically means that its overheating protection is working properly. Don't power the laptop on again until you get it fixed.

If I'm reading this right, you put a vacuum cleaner hose to your laptop fan port to suck dust out - while it was still powered on?

You can sort this problem out no problem mate. Just pop on to ebay and search for your CPU fan. If you aren't sure how to go about replacing the fan have a look on youtube or ask a mate that may know.

Problem could be solved for £12 or so! :)

Not that easy with a laptop though. ;)

It's not that different, with both desktops and laptops you have to open the case. Only difference is it is a little harder with the laptops as usually it is fairly detailed.

Well, OP will have to open the case anyway, to check whether the fan is blocked. ;)

Yeah the lads are bang on. Its possible the fan is just jammed with dirt and needs to be freed up. I'd have a feeling though you burned out the motor on it though. Need to open it up obviously to see what the story is.

Replacing the fan is a straightforward procedure on most of these satellites. If you have done a bit of tinkering with fixing computers or laptops before and have the correct tools I'd say just grab a fan off ebay from either of these sellers in Ireland: Fan1 Fan2. I have experience with both sellers and they are fine to deal with. Also while you are fitting the fan, you might as well reseat the heatsink and apply fresh thermal paste.

However if you are not confident with a DIY option, its definitely best to bring it to a repair centre.

OP's other posts seem very strange.
