What immigration procedures to American citizens coming to Ireland have to go through

    Irish citizens are on the visa exempt list, but they still have to fill out a landing card, a good decleration card, photograph at the border, fingerprinted etc. Does this apply to Americans coming here too?

    How come Spain asks for advance passenger information of all people entering by plane? Why doesn't Ireland do the same? I would like to see tighter security at our borders.

    All non-EU citizens must complete a landing card on arrival to Ireland. They can be questioned based on their answers and other indicators by the Gardai at immigration. Citizens of certain countries require a visa to visit, the USA is not one of these. After the garda check they go through customs the same as EU citizens.

    An EU directive was made in 2004 all carriers must provide advance passenger information - Spain was the first country to put this into action. All passengers booking flights these days already provide that information, names, date of birth, passport no. etc,
