start as you mean to go on i say! my daughter was the same age when she started, also had a 5 yr old then, some great campsites down around cork/kerry if you were travelling that far, have a look on camping ireland though for one nearer home if you didnt want to be travelling to far

We brought our eldest away when he was one and he loved it. Apart from the extra gear you have to lug with you, the elements are the main concern. Camping is such an outdoors holiday that sun-cream and hats are paramount as is raingear if it looks iffy. But most importantly, make sure everyone is snug and warm through the night. Don't scrimp on sleeping bags and equally importantly the sleeping mats. eg http://www.alpkit.com/sleeping-mats

The only other thing is early nights and early starts. We were in bed by half nine and up again at 6am. Tents aren't great at keeping the sunshine out ;)

Highly recommed http://www.morriscastlestrand.com/ and http://www.irelandholidaypark.com/ as very family and child centered.

I'd concur wih everything the previous posters have said. I'd my kids camping from about 6 months. Bring plenty of blankets and be ready for some early mornings. N.B Check the forecast. One time we got caught in gael force winds and the tent was only held up by our travel cot. Miraculously the kids slept through most of it but my wife didn't speak to me for a week.
Also bring wellies or crocs, much easier for them to put on and off going in and out of tent.
    Favourite campsite; Lettergeish beach connemara
    Wild camping: Ballyconneally Connemara

Im an avid camper and have taken my boy (6) camping since he got out of nappies. Personally i have a 'not whilst in nappies' rule so my 5 mth old will not be joining me for a while!!
The '****,e up to the shoulder blades' nappies are bad enough at home with running water and an elevated changing area. Doing one in a field makes me shudder.:eek::eek::eek:
