Ebay is your best bet. I have bought new mixed bags or some old button collections for half nothing.

Charity shops can also be a good source. They sometimes have boxes of them.

Bits n Bobs in Wilton shopping centre in Cork do bags of buttons for 3-4 euro.

What type of buttons are you looking for? Real horn buttons, corozo nut, or mother of pearl for tailoring or plastic buttons etc.?

This might be a bit far-fetched but I heard some cardmakers buy clothing in charity shops if they have unusual buttons on them, it would be cheaper to buy an item for €2 or €3 to get special buttons but as I say it's just something I've come across on other craft forums. I haven't noticed anything that special in charity shops in the city here.

Ask all your friends for any unused buttons cut from tops in those little bags and to look in their wardrobes fro recyclable clothes and cut the buttons off them. You'll get a nice collection that way. Also you could buy some Fimo and bake some different looking buttons or buy coverable buttons and cover them with any spare material you have. You can buy a bag of buttons in craft shops.:)
What do you need the buttons for?

in my last project, i used nearly 3,000 buttons.

and i have another project on the ago which is going to take roughly 1,800 buttons.

the cheapest place to order them from is China or Hong Kong from ebay - they take a long time to come.

if you want various different types and styles. type "craft buttons" into ebay. just watch out for some of the postage charges.

The Dublin Woollen Mills are having a closing down sale from 5th June. Sad times. Hope someone takes it over as a craft/millinery supplier again, we are in dire need of good supplies here.

OneIdea just posted this link for someone else regarding a different enquiry. It has buttons on it which might be of interest.

Ebay for bulk, I bought a 1 kilo bag yesterday for £18.00 sterling. If you want really lovely, unique high quality ones though definately go to Etsy.com. I do the charity shops most weeks and you'd rarely see buttons, I have found two really good button stash's in my life in the charity shops. Usually they're the crappy ancient old dull browns and black ones that are over priced by the staff. It's a lot of effort compared to Ebay without guaranteed results!

Rings a bell now, I think I saw it on Boards before. You are right, the website is not the greatest but the 'showroom' (I prefer 'shop') might be worth a visit sometime.
