Might do this actually. Woddle promised me a lift last year and any opportunity to leave Woddle in my dust is always welcomed. :D

I suppose we have to level the playing field somehow and the fact I can't swim should help your lost cause :D

On another note, great race and definitely one to bring the family along to.

Highly recommend this. Great event and a challenging enough course! Unfortunately I cant commit to entering this till July, but if I can then, and its not full, I will.

We should be bringing a large group from Trilogy this year........no sign of any 795 at Trilaois ?

Cool, will be great to see groups arriving, always helps with the atmosphere
Hopefully you'll have a bit more luck yourself this time round as well
We've had members at Laois each of the last few years, just not this time round, but we're a lot smaller club than ye guys - can't be everywhere :)
    See you in August

Looks like we'll have about 10 from Trilogy down there:)

    How is it selling ?

Looking forward to seeing you and the other lads from trilogy on the day
Hope the bike treats you a bit better this time round

How does the swim grading work? I don't remember putting an estimated time down while entering, are the lanes ranked by ability? How do you pass/get passed?

Looks like there will be a good few Boardsies doing it.

Whats the etiquette in pool tris. Say the person behind you is touching your feet during the swim, but you've been relentlessly touching the feet of the person in front of you and they haven't stopped(assuming you can't overtake). Do you stop and let them pass, add more seconds to your swim and put yourself down a placing, or, do you go on?

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,421 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Usually the marshals will spot that and hold the slower person back at the end of the lane. They will tell you in the briefing if passing is allowed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,047 ✭✭✭griffin100

In this race the marshals will watch for slower swimmers and will pull them up at the end of a length. Be sure that you want to pass though, it's a hell of a lot easier swimming in someone's slipstream compared to leading the group and you might find that when you take the lead you could be struggling.

There's no mid length passing in pool swims.

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,421 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Passing is allowed in pool swims sometimes. It was allowed in Joey Hannan, in one direction only.

Over and out for me. I was reminded yesterday and again this morning that I agreed MONTHS ago to have the nephew all weekend while my sister is at a wedding in the UK. No way am I missing training for the little bugger but a trip to the sunny south east is definitely off.

Ha he's 19 months and he'd be nosediving off the top of that within seconds if I left him to it. Unless you're offering to supervise? :D

Signed up to do this race myself. Not sure to take the TT bike or the road bike, Have done a bit of cycling in the area so know there is a good few hills involved! Just wondering if the time made on the tt bike on the flat would be lost on the climbs?

I train on this bike route and use the TT bike all the time. None of the hills are that steep that you will be in trouble on the TT bike except maybe for the first 500m out of transition and the 500m up through Clonegal. Every other hill can be done on the aerobars. There are also 2-3 really fast descents (yuo can hit 60kph+ coming back into Bunclody) where the TT bike will really make up time, assuming that the road conditions are dry enough to allow fast descending

TT for me, only got it last week and any excuse to give it a go as its Aug now and soon it won't see daynight for months:(

Don't forgot race closes tonight at 8 !

Great videos on the site of the bike and run route ( i got a flat at 1:17 in the bike one:o )

Just thinking, the water is going to be bloody freezing:eek:

You mean apart from the reason that it seems to be a front for some sort of wife swapping outfit  :D

I didn't think the standards would drop so fast on the new forum

Unmotivation, Oryx? At least you're a decent runner, and stand to make up places as the race goes on. Try being good at swimming, mediocre at biking, and crap at running. Very unmotivating, the prospect of being constantly passed from the pool to the finish!

I'm a decent sleeper at the moment, and thats about it. And for the record my biking is worse than yours. Im just there to make you look good. :p

Reminds me of my favourite saying. No matter how wonderful you think she is, someone, somewhere, is sick of her sh!t. :)

hi, this is my first triathlon & i have a couple of queries i hoped you may be able to help me with, i know a wet suit is not requied for this event, but can you let me know what will people generally wear while swimming ?, and will they change into tri shorts when out of the water ?, also is the run on tarmac or trail ?,
Sorry for the bombardment of questions but nerves are running high !!!

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,421 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

You can wear a trisuit or swimsuit for the swim. You can then put shorts on in transition if you just have swim gear on. The run is all on tarmac.

Very precise race manual, fair play on that, it explains a lot.

I'm in wave 5, which from what I can make out, is the fastest wave, but I presume will start after all the others (ie last)?

    Really looking forward to this!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,100 ✭✭✭DustyBin

The lads have put a fair bit of work into the manual all right

Yes, wave 1 first, wave 5 last
Registration and transition close the same time for everyone but plenty of room by the pool to shout on others and get a feel for things before your big splash :)
Gives you nice warmup time too

    Good luck!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,361 ✭✭✭Kurt Godel

Ok, cards on the table, who's in for predictions?

    Swim: 8:30
    T1:1:30
    Bike: 41:00
    T2: 1:30
    Run: 23:00
    Total:1:15:30

Will try and shave those 30 secs :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 72 ✭✭essdee

Ooops! I thought this was the slowest wave! I may have been overly optimistic in estimating my swim time - 10 mins.
