I've signed up for this but don't know if I can raise the minimum €100 for it, my sponsors are suffering from donor fatigue at this stage.

Many of us are in the same boat. I have done this ride 5 times and on the morning they are generally happy to take a donation of whatever you can afford.
2 years ago we had a group of 30 riders and maybe 10 had sponsorship cards, the rest would have given donations between 25 and 50 euro.

In the same boat here, there are a number of use who have done it before but are put off by the € 100 sponsorship and so will be unlikely to go down this year.

I done a bit of gathering last year but to be honest I hate asking the family and workmates for sponsorship again.. ! €100 is a big enough ask in the times that are in it and people are cleaned out....

The Croi crowd are only to happy to let you go for a donation ! I am just going to land on the morning, put my name down and put into the pot ... ;)

Wasn't aware they would take a donation less than €100, doing it this year for third time and trying to collect t €100 was almost impossible. They need to reduce their minimum donation to €50 and make it more affordable for all

I think I might do this. I've done very little training so far this year but I should be alright once I take it handy. A chance to cycle with Sean Kelly shouldn't be turned down! Also the weather forecast is pretty decent for Sunday (I've probably jinxed it now).

I probably won't be able to reach the €100 donation target and I can't afford to donate much myself, but I'll try my best so hopefully they will be ok with that.

yeah it's a bit odd that the start time is not on the Croí website.
It said on last weeks Galway Advertiser that it starts at 8.15am.

I got in contact with Croi and they said the event starts at 8.30 with sign on open from 7.15 to 8.15.

Here's the profile of the route that I did on MapMyRide.
The route is fairly bumpy but there are no big climbs.

I received an email from Croí's event fundraising manager today. Just thought I'd share some of the info in it for those you are just registering on the day, and also because there isn't a lot of info on their website.
    • If you haven't registered or haven't received your sponsorship card yet (I haven't gotten my sponsorship card as I only registered on Tuesday), Croí ask if you could make a donation on the morning of the cycle
    • Registration takes place from 7:15am to 8:15am in the Regional Sports Pavilion, Dangan (co-ordinates 53º17’32”N; 9º4’41”W), located 1 mile approximately outside Galway City Centre on the Clifden Road, N59 (near Westwood Hotel). Light refreshments will be available
    • The cycle starts at 8:30am sharp
    • Refreshments are available at the following points: Moycullen, Oughterard, Maam Community Centre, Cong, Headford and Menlo Park Hotel :D

As we start in Ballinrobe and cycle up we get to finish at the Famus Cong Cake/Tart stop. We can eat our fill as others must face the 25 miles with the (under normal weather conditions) headwind ;)

    +1

The Cong stop is deffo welcome .. It gives you a good oppertunity to eat till you bust... You will need this for the headwind on the Curragh line !

If you spot me struggling on my 30 year old Peugeot 979 Duralinox please give me a push as you pass....;)

What a day. Jaysus the wind. Its a pain in the rear when you climb a hill in a headwind and have to pedal harder to get down.

Hope you all enjoyed the tailwind from Cross up:D

Great day! Although my legs really really suffered from the lack of training!!
Going up any sort of a hill killed me! The NE wind was horrible from Maam Cross to Maam

I have to say that the event was fantastically organised and I hope Croi have got a lot of donations.
Tonnes of food at the start, plenty of food stops, and lots of volunteers and civil defense people.
Best of all was the food stop at Cong! Very impressive baked treats! I had apple tart, chocolate biscuit cake, chocolate brownie and rice krispie squares :D :pac:

The t-shirt is very nice. Plus I got a nice photo with Sean Kelly and I also got his autograph! :)

It was a great day out. I took the 83 Vitus Peugeot with appropriate Peugeot gear and lace up SIDI's. Loads of nice compliments..!

Bike ran brilliant.... Until Maam Cross where the bottom bracket started to yelp on the hill. Dry bearings due to lack of use I say... Lowest gear I had was 42 - 21 so I had to bull into it ! After the stop in Cong she settled down and we pulled about 26-28mph (according to the other fellas) on the way from Cross to Galway. About 15 miles of sheer bliss

Once again the event was really well organised and run and I hope Croi got a good turn out of it !
